I was talking to my buddy the other day who is doing a lot of the body work to my car and we came up on the subject of replacing the chrome grille with a black chrome grille, as well as replacing the back piece of chrome (rear surround) with black chrome. He told me he could paint it that way, but it wouldn't really stick unless the car was going to be for show purposes not a daily driver. I have asked around a little and some people said Lincoln actually sells a black chrome replacement grille, but I have yet to have any success after looking at numerous sites.

EDIT:
I actually just looked and saw Ken posted an EDU on how properly paint it, my question would be then, how long should I expect it to last? The car is driven through the winter and whatnot so thats why I was trying to avoid this route.

the paint can't be too expensive.. let's say that worst case scenario that it lasts a year.. due to excessive driving, rain, snow, debris and so forth..

if it lasts a year.. at the end of the year u can just repaint it.. just make sure u keep extra paint so u should be fine.. the color will match and so forth..

jus repaint it every so often... since ur paint over chrome i believe u would be able to get a cleaning substance and jus take off all the paint and repaint it..

another option would be to use vinyl, but i dont think u want to do that.. i used it on my eyebrows and my corner lights instead of painting..

i know someone used black tape to cover the chrome trim around the doors.. (do a search for it.. it's easy to do)..

if u get a vinyls peice big enough u can wrap the chrome in vinyl.. use a head gun to "mold" it to the chrome peice.. then if it fades or looks bad u can just peel off the vinyl..

just a few ideas.. if u put a clear coat after u paint it.. u should be fine.. will prolly last a lot longer than a year if done correctly...

Get yourself an LSE front grill. They are body colour (black if you want) with chromed bars instead of black ones. See my photo gallery for an idea of what it looks like. If you want black/black, then switch out the inside piece (bars) with your stock grille, and sell the mutant chrome/chrome grill for more than you paid for the LSE grill.
