Finally got a chance to work on the Mark Viii this weekend. Friday morning i did the Ford racing Trac-Lok/ 4.10's install. I did it on the ground with a jack and jack stands. Not recommended, i would find a lift!! haha. but got it all done and it runs great!

Saturday morning i Pulled off the old Intake Manifold and put on the Shortened runner Cobra intake manifold. Ran into a TON of problems and had to fabricate ALOT of things, but we got it to work. Ill get some pictures, its not the prettiest thing right now but it got me home. (used the stock intake tube, just cut it and taped it back together.)haha but the install with the custom fab, 2 guys, doing everything from completely cleaning the imrc's to porting out the throttle body and knife edging the butterfly valves took around 14 hours. we had a few brakes in between but it is not an easy task.

I used the stock intake tube, stock fuel rails, capped off the egr, had to custom fit where the fpr was hitting the upper intake cover, lengthen the TPS wires, the bracket for the cable is still not clear to me what i needed to do, i just made it work with the throttle cable and left the cruse off, ill try to fab up something i guess, and a few other B.S. things but its done

Would I recommend the 98 cobra intake manifold.???

Definately, i noticed a HUGE gain in top end. its not even dynotuned yet and it was a definate power increase!!!mine has the shortened runners and to my knowledge i am the only one to ever attempt this on a Mark VIII. It runs very good.!!!

Dyno Tune at Logan Motorsports is hopefully next weekend! Pics will be following shortly

There is another guy on a different forum that is running a shortened runner cobra intake also. Id post a link but im not sure on the rules about that here.

Thats cool!! Mine is Just shortened aprox. 1.5-2" on each runner and i am running the IMRC's which i cleaned and look brand new.(they were soooo dirty and gunked up and i only have 54000 miles!!!) I have some deletes but i am going to wait for the vortech:gr_devil: to put those on!

ill get some pictures up shortly.

DOES ANYBODY KNOW IF THE COBRA MAF(or aftermarket cobra maf) HAS THE SAME PLUG UP AS THE MARK VIII GEN 2?????

THANKS

You capped off the EGR valve? How do you do that without getting a CEL? I'd like to get rid of mine if I could it with not too much hassle.

The CE light will only trigger if there is a problem with the valve I believe. So if you just cap it off, no matter. The valve is still there doing its thing but no exhaust is being dumped into the intake.

Ive seen differences between obd1 and 2 plugs. Not completely sure.. but it should work fine.

the CEL will trigger if there is no EGR flow. he will get a CEL in a couple weeks. p0401

Yeah It has a check engine light. ill get it shut off when i get my tuner on friday. Dyno Tune comes Next weekend!!! As for the questions, Low end doesnt seem to be affected, i really wanted to run my IMRC deletes just to see how it liked it. but i didnt. It was really suprised after reading that everyone said my low end would be nonexistant with the short runners, but its not.!!!

It pulls really good, but needs a tune obviously. The first couple of pictures are of my stock air tube that we had to hack up to make it work so i could drive it home! But last night i picked up one from a Cobra guy that has a high flow MAF and a conical air filter (see pics)

Ill get some pics during the day soon

That looks great! Can you post the dyno sheet with this set up. Your hp rating is that dyno readings? I've been thinking about this as well. Just thinkin though. The deletes are for high stalls only in IMO. I removed the controller and tig welded the valves open. Wish I didn't. Hurts the mpg's and low end grunt. doesn't want to break'em loose off the line like before. I will be activating this next time I work on the car. Great lookin car

No, i have never had the car dyno'd. I will this weekend, hopefully friday! Do the swap! its hard and takes some skill and time if you run the stock rails but its worth it!

It looks great, sorry that we weren't able to help you.btw I completely forgot that I have mid length jet hot coated Kooks headers for mark VIII seating in my garage ,doing nothing.I'm sure they would look great and perform on you car :D

I want some real numbers before I spend the money. These cars are funny imo more air doesn't always mean more power. Maybe more power @ red line what about e.t. thats what I want. Other that the juice almost everthing I did made like difference in time. Its all about the 60' time I'm starting to learn. Example. Last year raced early 90's corvette he ran 14 flat @ 89mph I ran 15.3 @ 91mph Please let us know how the times change with this set up.

if Logan Motorsports has an opening (which they are going to let me know today) on friday i will be dyno tuning the Mark there!

It REALLY needs a tune. it will really benifit after firming up the shifts and giving it more fuel!

95sc, its all good bro, i figured it out mostly. just need an egr block off plate. I also might need your help with the Throttle Bracket, because i have mine just hooked up without the 2nd cable(cruise) i tryed to bend the bracket myself but it wasnt working.. but other than those 2 things, it went smoothly!
If i get it dyno tuned at logan friday you should come up so we could meet face to face! that would be fun to see your car and your brothers too! As for the headers, how much you want for them?

Does anybody have a picture of their throttle bracket they bent to work with the cobra manifold? mine works but like i said i am not running the cruise cable...

i might be able to open the hood on my cobra and take some pics for you maybe that will give you some insight on how to bend the brackets but i wont see the cobra till the weekend (its put away for the winter :( ) i wouldnt mind doing it to mine but with the cobra i dont see the point in ruining the mileage i get out of my daily driver but it sure does look a ton better and i love the way my cobra runs i ran a 13.9 spinning through 2nd and thats what pushed me to buy a mark viii

If you use the stock fuel rails you will need to trim the part of the intake back where the EGR used to bolt up. I still don't get how you used the stock cable mine was like a foot to long I got lucky and found a cobra cable on eBay for about $20
