I am searching for the best sounding muffler for both interior and exterior sound. I can't stand the sound of the interior drone that I have now, I have factory exhaust manifolds with no cats and true duals ending at flowmasters .Any suggestions?

on my brown car i have the 3rd cat and resonator gone, an unmuffled crossover mid body and two flow 40's....smooth, drone? I don't think so, but maybe I'm used to it; I may do exhaust on my ivory car....muffled crossover mid body and magnaflows at the rear bumper, or LMS mufflers...cost wise, I think Full Boar makes good mufflers at lowered prices, no big name upcharge

Put cats back on, center x'ed muffler, borlas at the back

Why did you use a "unmuffled" crossover on one and want a "muffled" on the other? I haven't did the exhaust yet and was just wondering! I would like true duels just as quite as the factory single. I'm done with loud years ago!

Spree and OP, I have log manis with cats, a Magnaflow resonator muffler thingy mid-line with 2 Magnaflow mufflers out back on Big Red and it is just about as quiet as stock. Sliiiiiiiiiiiiightly more throaty upon WOT but I also have a fenderwell intake setup which probably exacerbates that effect slightly. It is hardly noticeable though and does mostly everything in almost complete and utter silence including a throttle blast to 140mph. You could listen to classical music in that car and it would not be interrupted at all by the sound of the exhaust. That is my 2 cents.

There are many I like but my favorites are Burbanks and Geno's.

fwiw, re; drone, I've read articles about adding baffles of a specific length to target wavelengths from a certain RPM range; they're added after the cats; it works on the principle of destructive interference: the baffle turns a half wave around and deadens the sound-flattens the wave

I'll soon be adding 2.5'' duals to my ivory car. I got a deal on used Magnaflow XL's. These will be quieter than my Flowmaster 40's on the brown car. Now the question is:
-should I add an un-muffled or muffled x-pipe mid body?
-I can salvage the exhaust from a 95 LSC, is it worth it? prolly only save me about 75-$100

Long tubes with magnaflow center X muffler and magnaflows in the rear. Mandrel bent 2.5" piping.

Cherry bombs. Definitely (my personal opinion :)) I had them on the '97 LSC and they sounded fabulous! I love the 60's muscle car sound it gives the car. It's not too loud but it does definitely make a statement. Makes it sound like a real Hot Rod Lincoln.

Hi guys it's been a while! still fighting my personal demons! still crazy after all these years!!! VA hospital's a mother f@#@*)!!!

I'm old school...I have cherry bomb glass packs on my white 93' if the sound would get to uncomfortable (Which hasn't happened yet) I'd blast the radio!! or sit on my deck and let my grandson rev the engine then sit back and enjoy the symphony!!!

I really like that. Sounds good. I got to try a video that way some day.

No drone EVER. And you know your exhaust is tame when you can hear an S-trim over the exhaust. The S-trim Vortech is a very quiet blower in comparison to most Centrifugals out there.

Like I said, classical music on WOT blasts, no problem.

Remove the cats and resonator and put in an x-pipe and DRONE CENTRAL.

I have headers, but I think you're still going to drone with log manis with zero cats and zero resonator. It's just guaranteed. Your car will become a big sub box with exhaust woofers. lol

Yes the S-trim is very deceptive. Mine is quiet as well. That's what I like most about it besides the power. The only way people know it is there is if I tell them.

That's a pretty accurate description Stomberg..
Every passenger cabin has a natural resonance frequency. I've never checked it on the mark but a extended cab mini truck is around 70hz, that's why they sound good with a decent sub.
When the exhaust hits that note of resonance or the octave above/below it, that's when you get drone.
Your exhaust becomes a tone generator in the worst way.

My Cobra did that at highway speed 60 -70 mph. I always thought that might be a good excuse if I got caught speeding :D . My Mark is at least just as loud or maybe even louder than the Cobra but it never drones ???

Mine drones from 1900-2100 rpm under load as you come up to speed. Cruising down the highway at 70-80 I can hear the exhaust but the car is nice and quiet.
I need to stick the RTA in the car and get a frequency range, two little pipes could fix it no problem. I've thought about doing it before the new motor goes in but I really hate doing things twice.

thats how my mark is when its ran cut off at the resonator a big box with exhaust woofers
