So I brought my car with the transmission problem so I have never driven it on the interstate. Well after working on the tranny and replacing the 4-3 stroke valve spring tonight was the night. Man it rides like a dream and has some good get up. Next is to do the plugs and coils to see what else I can get but I am truly satisfied right about now. Here is a picture of the spring that was bad. It looks like its a short spring but its actually broken in 3 places. Owned it for a month now and still learning.

Write up ?

I wouldn't mind learning a bit more about this fix. Intense ? DIY'er in the driveway ?

That is something I knew about before I dropped the pan and filter, kinda a wish I knew now thing.

I know mine is broken due to the issue I am having with the shift.

It was kind of late when I posted this but its coming soon. There are a few pointers that I would like to throw in there. Wish I would have taken some pictures before hand but I didn't.

I was going to do a write up but I basically followed this thread myself when replacing my 4-3 stroke valve spring.

What I can say is technically you do not have to take your transmission out of your car you can do this with the car on jack stands and just dropping the pan. My transmission was out of the car because I was going to replace it but decided to just fix the issue. Now when taking down your valve body be sure not to turn it over becuase you will hav a few balls and a spring that will come out in the upper half of it.

I will say since the fix all of the other issues I was experiencing have gone away. No more over heating check engine light and everything are clear. I took the car back to the shop that gave me 3 pages of errors and tried to get me to spend $3600 buck and they got nothing. As long as you have the spring you can do this fix in your driveway in a matter of 4 hours tops. The thread I followed is dead on so if you go by that you should have no issues replacing your spring and be back on the road in no time.

We use fresh cut tree stumps for added measures out here on the farm lands.

Seen that!

Thanks for the info, I had already seen that thread but this time I bookmarked it.
Although this is not a problem for me just "yet" ... it's FORD, Fix Or Repair Daily, so I know it's only a matter of time.

Thanks again. looks good.
