Belt slip

Anybody getting belt slip when they're on it? ..More around 5,500.. I get it every single time.


I break about one serpentine per year. And I think I just brought the possible reason to my conscious attention.

edit: New tensioner, water pump, alternator, idler pulley .. so it's not because of any of that.
 
With a stage 5 Baunmann, I'm chirping even Gatorbacks and new tensioning hardware.

With the old wheel/tire combo it would just boil the tires on the shift, now it just hits the belt.
 
im chirping on the 1-2 if im partial throttle. sometimes the tires give sometimes its the belt.
 
I think this one's NAPA's finest. Ha. They were close last time? it broke, I think.

The trans that's in at the moment isn't J modded, no shift kit either.

No chip. I've been waiting until this spring to mess with any of the program.

I think I'll try a gatorback.
 
I hear my belt chirp while shifting every now and then.

I think something's wrong if you're breaking a belt every year, though.. You might want to double-check the tension, make sure that it's riding evenly on all the pullies, and look for signs of slippage (glazing, overly shiny pullies). Sounds like it's either too loose or one of the accessories is creating a lot of drag.

Good points, I'd think that if I wasn't already aware that my accessories are in top shape.

The first time it broke, I don't know if antifreeze is bad on a belt .. but I can almost bet. That was when I had a leaky water pump. I don't recall the situations the next couple times it broke. The last time I just layed into it, and it broke. I thought it was defective, and I just had some extra rotating force on it by layin into it, but I think they're breaking cause of the slip. I'm always on it, probably more than most of you guys. I've replaced almost everything the belt runs on, including the ac compressor, actually.

What's best, Gatorback?
 
Gatorbacks are good. If you get one, try ordering it off checker's website and picking it up (if you have a checker/CSK nearby,) saved myself about $10 that way.
 
+1 for Goodyear Gatorback

The only belt noise I get is a chirp during a 1-2 upshift @ high rpm.

With the gatorback? That's the chirp I'm trying to get rid of with Napas finest.
 
I would use gates belts never had a problem with them at work.

would roughing the pulleys up a tad with some schotbrited or somthing hurt? Could it help?

A friend of mine said he could chirp the tires in his stock town car, so I road with him and it chirpped the belt plenty but not the tires
 
I'll try a gatorback next time it breaks. After that I'll just conclude that I'm not going to waste my time thinking about it.

It has to be coming from one spot, if I take my hood off who wants to sit on my engine with their head down and tell me as I hit second? :p
 
Try new tensioner. Fomoco #XR3Z-6B209-DB as it has stiffer spring and a ridged steel arm. It's a new improved item from the factory. I have it now on my SC car and am ordering one for my NA.

Next time I go on a benge for spending money on the car I'll have to pick one up..... how much does that ford part cost to you recall?

Jeremy and Roadboss, that's such good info I had to 'bookmark' it.:) I also did the gatorback which solved the current problem but doesn't address the 'future' problem.:p
