After a long winter of the battery sitting in the cold, all 6 cells are dead. Time for a new battery. Does anyone prefer one brand over another? I just want a decent battery that can withstand the abuse of highway driving with all the electronics and big stereo, and also the trips to the race track.

Im pretty bad about not charging it when it runs down, so ill be running one of these from now on.

Any suggestions on a decent battey?

i agree with the optima. running a yellow top in my cobra with no issues.ive had it for 3 years now.

Go with the yellow top Optima FTW! its the best battery ive ever owned. here in Minnesota where it gets to -35 below, my 93 started every day being parked outside. it never failed me all winter.

I have a Red top Optima that has been threw I can't tell you how many cars. However it seems after all these years the thing is near the end of it's life. Give it about 2 days and the car wont start but that's why I have a battery tender out there so what ever car I have parked near the garage that I am not using, it gets plugged into the tender.

Yeah it really works cause after a few weeks the cars start up like I just parked em an hour ago :D

I personally like using the regular old plain jane wet cell deal.... I have an OEM Motorcraft in my Mark right now and it sat all winter and still works just fine...

Get one of these....

The most important thing to remember about wet cell batteries ( and Optima style? ) is that the need to maintain a full charge to keep them alive. and cold weather is the enemy along with poor maintenance. The quick disconnect will eliminate any parasitical draw that exists but you must do some thing to maintain a full charge if your car is sitting in the cold for a period of time. That's where trickle chargers come into use. There are some very efficient ones out there including solar powered chargers. I don't think the brand name of the battery is as important as getting one that has a good cranking and storage capacity. Don't buy the cheapie. Go for one that is good for 4 or more years. If you are running a high powered sound system, then there are other issues and solutions that I'm sure you already know need to be addressed.

I've had bad luck with two Optimas in the past.
Good luck with Ford batteries other than the one I let freeze by mistake! Good luck with Interstate and Exide too...

Your about the third person to reccommend that brand. Im leaning that way.

I will do that next year, but will have to pull the battery out and bring it in the house and put it on the trickle charger to keep it out of the extreme cold.

where can i get one of those terminal disconnects? I tried searching oreilly's and autozone, but they dont seem to have it.

While discussing batteries, anyone have any recommendations as to how to remove the old crappy factory terminals? I was planning on prying them off with 2 sets of pliers. I've heard of people cutting them?
