batt location

Don't laugh, some cars have the battery under the seat.

And good job fiddler admitting to being a newbie instead of just trolling these threads pretending you know everything; like me.

One of my trucks is a Utlimaster Panel truck and the battery is under the FLOOR as you step into the truck. STUPID PLACE GETS MUDDY,ETC ETC. Sometimes I think those enginers are on CRACK or they're JOKING. "LET'S PUT IT HERE AND LISTEN TO THEM CRY"

 :bowrofl: ...HAHAHAAHAA!... No..seriously?!...I was actually thinking about buying a flexible solar panel and putting it on the reverse/outside side of the sliding moonroof pull-cover-thingy as an auxiliary battery charger for either cold winter days or mp3 player/phone/usb charger for the summer.

I was also thinking about incorporating either a larger single flex panel or two smaller flex panels into a sunshade...I figure I may as well use all the solar energy instead of just reflecting it back...right?!?!?!? :shifty:

that is the dumbest thing i have ever heard of

I don't see that as so dumb. I think that the solar panel in the roof cover is a particularly good idea. (I would have to, I thought about doing that too.)

Here's the full thought: Put solar panel(s) in the roof vent cover, facing up. Use them to charge the car battery, and to run a small vent fan in the summer.

my battery stays charged all the time and my ac works so i dont see why you would do this.

My AC and my cooled seats work too. However, it's still no fun getting into a car that is 150 degrees inside, even if it cools off in a minute or less. Another thing, it got so hot inside one day that the grease in the steering wheel melted and poured out. That caused the steering wheel to make an awful noise every time it retracted or extended. Fortunately, the warranty covered getting it regreased.

Perhaps you don't live in the sunbelt?

Maybe you never have to fly overseas and leave you car in the lot at the airport for the better part of a month?

I heard the next Prius will have a feature like that with some small fans integrated into the moonroof or something (I dunno if the solar panel charges the battery too or just runs the fans)

...It may be to some...but what about people who live where it's really cold? Unless you've survived a Michigan or other mid-northern state winter....then you don't know how much that could actually benefit people!

In defense of Utilimaster who is headquarted just a few miles from here, and a client of mine, I don't think they are the ones who decide where the battery is. I think the battery location is done by the chassis manufacturer. Depending on your model that could be a number of different people.

But, you are right that in the floor is a very dumb location for a battery. The next time I'm in Wakarusa I'll mention it to them for you.
