Bad Rack and Pinion

So about 2 months ago I noticed my steering wheel making a rubbing noise whenever the wheel was turned (it was not a big deal so I just dealt with it).

Anyhow, my warranty runs out on August 20th so I figured I would have the stealership take a look (cost me a $100 for deductable). The stealership just called and informed me that they will be replacing the rack and pinion and something else in the steering column (steering boot?).

I am so happy that they covered the parts & labor! Does anyone know how much $$ that would have cost me had my car not been under warranty?

There is a TSB on that part. Mine was replaced on my '03. They SHOULD NOT charge you anything for the replacement, not even your deductible. The TSB calls for the whole rack to be replaced, flushed and then have a synthetic fluid blend added. Get your money back or I'd be calling Corporate.

They are also fixing my Traction Control button. It literally fell into my center counsle!

It's barely held on by plastic screws. Mine snapped when I was removing the center console.

I had the same rack & other junk issue. They replaced my whole column before figuring out the rack was bad.

i broke mine about a year ago doing cookies in a parking lot at night and hit a dip and ripped my steering wheel out of my hands. the wheel had like 3 inches of play both ways and the wheel had to be 90 degrees to the right in order for me to go straight. got a used one for $125 so i wasnt too bad

the rack replacement would have cost you 1060.00 plus another 175 for the steering shaft....
