My 93 ran good, but had a hesitation / miss when gassed hard. Changing the plugs today and found the 2 rear on the drivers side were loose. They had blowby soot around the plugs and boots. I think great, I have found it. Put Autolite 764 plugs in and now it runs like crap.
I gaped the plugs at 45 instead of 54, I know....I am a dumbass.
Could this account for the miss? Car acts like it is running really rich now.

Thanks

I dont think the gap will make that kinda of a difference sounds like its running out of fuel, hows the fuel pressure. How many miles on the car? Stock fuel pump? How about the fuel filter?

High miles, new fuel filter, getting fuel ok. Changing the plugs is when it really ran bad.

Regapped the plugs to 54 and it still runs like crap. It is not wired like the manual states: 7 & 8 are reversed

If it is a hesitation/miss especially at load, I would suspect wires or coil first (experience), and firing order /wire location has to be correct. I know a 96 is different than other years, so make certain you are looking at the correct diagram for your year.

Make absolutely sure you did'nt mix any wires up... Check connections before the coil. I dont think itll be too likely that your coils are going. If you have the stock wires the boots may be torn up inside where the wire goes into them. When I pulled my wires I had to replace them because I broke the connection inside the boot. Try a junkyard wire or two once you figure which cylinder has the misfire.

hmm now i remember i did have that problem with my 93 and it was the coils. speaking of which I have them for sale now.(parting the car out) 55 bucks and they are yours

I only suggested coils and wires because, on my 93, replacing a coil to get rid of a dead miss when booting it cured the problem, so I know it happens. they are not expensive and easy to change.

Fixed!!!!!!!!!!!

Fixed, and yes I am a moron :D. The car has been cross wired all the time I have owned it. This helps explain the hesitation / miss. With the car being cross wired and then I got 2 switched when I replaced the plugs, it really ran bad. I know it was cross wired all the time, because I did not take the wires off the coils, but 2 and 8 were switched at the coils.

The car really hauls butt now!!!:D :D :D
I going to get a ticket.......
