Ivory Pearlescent '98 with 17x8 MSW 16 spoke wheels that I had powdercoated Anthrecite Metallic...a little diirty in these pictures, but this'll have to do until all this rain we've been getting stops.

Tires are Falken GR Betta RK-451 245/45ZR17...feels really good around corners, even in the wet stuff.

BTW, if anyone is looking, I have two sets (8 total wheels) of silver directionals I will be getting rid of.
 
I don't like them. They look waaay to ricer to be on that car.

I like em, If they were 20s then you could say they are ricey but I think they look almost like a stock wheel

Everyone likes their own things. I'm setting the car up more for lapping events and Auto-x so I think it fits the purpose well. They were purchased more for function than form, but needed refinishing. If I was going to buy new wheels i would be rolling on a new set of CCW's. These only weigh 22 lbs a piece and have more than enough clearance to fit the Wilwood 6 piston brake kit I plan to use.
 
I plan to get some new shoes for mine this winter. I am considering the 17's I don't want to go any bigger than that. Did you try the turn test? Does the wheel rub the inner wheel well?

You're going to try to auto-cross a Lincoln? :confused:

Are you nuts? There is no way you'll be able to get a 4000 lb luxury car to handle worth a damn in a competitive environment without whoring the entire car out. The spring rates and antisway bars necessary to control roll and keep the car reasonably flat will all but eliminate the luxury nature of the car. You may be able to go out there and 'go through the paces', but that's about it. If that's all you intend to do, more power to you. I applaud anyone who actually takes their car to a track.

Before you start in on me about how I don't know what I'm talking about. I own an SCCA ITE Mustang; I've replaced every piece of suspension on my current street Mustang, and I'm reasonably well versed in vehicle dynamics.

Lightweight wheels don't mean much when they're attached to a land yacht.

hes been to a couple autox's already. not the fastest car out there, but far from the slowest.. it handles pretty well for a boat..
i was there to pick up his cones :)

BTW, I don't like the wheels. No offense, just a personal taste thing. ;)

Nah, you can overcome pretty much anything in a drag race with enough power. Heck, look at PSCA heavy street - those cars must weigh 3700 lbs, and they run 6s. :D

My road race and auto-x are a whole different ballgame...

let him do what he wants to do with his car, it's not your place to tell him what's impossible with a Mark VIII.

Good luck with the auto-x I'm not going to tell you that it is impossible, but you're trying to compete in an ass-kicking with wasit-down paralysis.

Yes Paul, one could say I'm "Nuts"....

I may not have the most competetive car out there, but as Grifter said, I'm not the slowest either. Last year when I was Auto-xing I was only a second or two off the local Mustang guys that were also in their first year. They all had similar mods (Gears and exhaust mostly) and were only a few seconds in front of me. To put things in perspective, at the end of the day at one event I was turnning 1'10.xx" times where the Mustangs were between 1:08 and 1:12 all day, Miata's were running 1:02 to 1:12. I learned it's not so much the car as it is the drivers ability to work with what they have. But I'm not out there to be competetive, just to have fun and maybe turn a few heads.

And if you don't think one can make a 4,000 lb land yacht can be competetive, tell that to one of the local 94-96 Impala SS owners. When he attends HPDE's with the local F-body guys, his car competes with some, but walks right past most.

There are quite a few other suspension upgrades in the works as well.
 
My good customer Kevin used to run the SCCA Solo 2. He had 4.10's our chip, maf and exhaust. He would slam it to the ground and had nothing more then 17x9's with 275/40's at all 4 corners and Aadco bars front and rear. He did very well indeed.
 
Well, as I said, I applaud anyone who takes their cars to the track and races them. But, you're still nuts. :D
