When I put the LS in gear and start driving, after about 5 seconds the doors lock. Which is fine with me because there are some messed up people in this world that think your stuff belongs to them too.
When I park the car after I reach wherever im going, the doors stay locked, which is ok for the front doors because you just pull the handle and it unlocks on its own as you pull it. But the rear doors don't. Is there a way I can make the rear doors unlock by just pulling the handle? Or better yet, make it unlock all the doors on its own when I put the car in park? Anyone know? Thanks
02 model btw.

no.. no way to make them unlock w/ the pull of the handle, but I think a few (quik ls might be one of them) have done a wiring mod that makes all the doors unlock when you throw it into park.

i'm not sure if i understand correctly.
anyways, it sounds like a child lock?
does the ls even have a child lock?
as far as i know it does..

also with the V8 LS you can turn the auto lock feature off.

Aahhh... After reading it a second time over.. I think eastcoast is right. It sounds like the child locks are on.

Open the rear doors and on the side panel there is a switch to turn it on/off.

No its not child lock. The front doors have a little plastic piece that pulls the unlock switch when it opens. The rear doors do not. You have to manually pull the lock button to the unlock position then open the door, as with the front doors you can just pull the handles and it unlocks it and opens the doors.
I get a lot of passengers that yank the doors trying to open them in the back and i have to hit the unlock button.
I dont think theres a way to make all the doors switch to the unlock position. it would be nice though.
I hope this makes sense, its kinda hard to explain.

There is a way to do it; an LLSOC member did it to both of his LSes (one 1st Gen, one 2nd Gen). I think he used a relay or two, but I've never seen the point of the mod, so I didn't really pay much attention to it.

It sounds like the child locks are on.
No this is not the child locks. The doors are still able to be opened from the inside, but they have to be manually unlocked first. I just dont want someone breaking one of my door handles trying to get out of the car.
I dont have kids, im not worried about some little snot falling out the back door when im driving. So I wonder if I could just get front door handles and put them in the back doors? Is the tab that unlocks the front doors actually part of the handle? Or is it in the linkage somewhere?

no mine does this too, in the front when you pull the handle the lock opens with it, in the back you have to manually pull the lock first then handle or it wont open, its not child locks because mine are off, its just some ass backwards design thats different than the front doors

but its still a safety feature. main reason i bought the ls, for the safety rating. just turn the auto locks off on the on board computer, thats what i did, along wtih the easy entry/exit

seems like a reasonable safety feature to me. even if you don't use child locks (pita) you dont want a quick pull of the handle opening up the doors back there. at any rate just disable autolocks in the message center then your problem is solved.

I added a small circuit (using a Atmel microcontroller)to both of mine (04 and 06) to unlock all doors when the driver's door is opened if the key is off. I also have it add an extra 30 seconds of on time to the window controls so that I can put them in vent positions (if I forgot to do it before opening the door).

My windows can do that with the remote.
How difficult was it to wire up that controller? That's kind of along the lines that I was thinking except I'd like them to unlock when I put the car in park.

How difficult depends on the person. Being an electrical engineer with easy access to PCB fabrication, it was not difficult. I had two reasons to trigger based on the door being opened. 1. I didn't want them to unlock before I was ready, which might not be when I put it in park. 2. All the signals that were needed to do this were available in the driver's door near the door module. The park signal wasn't there.

My previous cars didn't have the delayed turn off feature or an alarm, so I made a much more advanced module for them. It had the alarm function, auto-unlock, and delayed acc off features. It also had an advance-on feature. When the unlock button was pressed, it would power up the windows and the radio. The radio was wired to keep playing while the car was being started. I kind of miss that, but not enough to make another controller.

If I had it to design (the LS) I would make the rear doors auto-unlock when their door handle was lifted (from the inside) when the car was not moving. Pretty easy to do electronically...
