Auto headlight problem

Here's the deal....my headlights work in manual on off position.
Last week I noticed that my lights weren't on ( I usually leave them on auto for the daytime driving lights)

They would come on when I started the car then shut off a few seconds later( in auto position). I changed the #5 fuse under the passenger dash. They worked fine for a week or so. Now back to the same issue. I cleaned the sensor on the windshield and checked the fuse again...all checks out fine.

But my headlights still wont stay on....any ideas?

Just a quick point to add.....I have noticed my Rpm's dropping lately down to around 600-700 under idle (usually around 1000-1100) but my car doesn't stall. I have a manual LS. I have been meaning to get my Alternator checked but haven't had the time. I am wondering if there is some sort of safety setting in the comp that controls the auto lights incase there is to much of a draw off the alternator to keep the car from stalling. Just an idea

One other thing....my headlights are back to the stock setup. no more projectors.

Good thought. Could be worth checking the alternator just in case. Have you checked the auto function in a dark/shady area? Could be too much direct sunlight.
Also that little sensor in the windsheild is for the auto rain sensing wipers. Not sure where the daylight sensor is on these, but its usually a dark dome-like thing on the dashboard, or sometimes on the back of the rear-view mirror.

It is on the rear view mirror facing the windshield.

Yeah the sensor is in the little black dome where the alarm blinky red light is... at least that's where it is on the second gen LS...
Probably it's going bad or theres a short in the wiring.

thanks for the input guys....could armor-all or any other kind of cleaner effect the way the sensor works? I am just trying to see what all the ideas are.

All LSes have the sensor on the back of the mirror (I have both generations). I would suspect the mirror. Either the sensor, or the mirror itself. You don't have a sticker on the back of the mirror, do you?

I MIGHT be mistaking but... i always thought the sensor on the back of the mirror was for the auto dimming mirror, the sensor on windshield is the rain sensor and the black dome on the dash as the auto lights (because if you cover that dome the lights will go on.... maybe just mine? i doubt that)

Let me clarify this one thing real quick... By "back" of the rear-view mirror, I meant the side that you DONT look at. The side that's plastic, not the mirror itself. There is a sensor in the mirror side for the auto dim function, but that has nothing to do with the headlights.

exactly... and the sensor on top dash is for lights, try testing it and covering it n see if lights go on.. maybe its a bad sensor? fuses like others said maybe, sorry couldnt help more

Yes, the sensor for the headlights is under that dome in the center of the dash, by the windshield.
