LOL.... The tape deck was actually popular for this model. It was in every LS i looked at when i was shopping for one. Maybe the others weren't alpine. The disc changer is in the glove box (or lack there-of)
I put in a 1/2 din eq and crossover control to go with my Kenwood 9140 4 amp Rockford Fosgate 1700 watt rms monster stereo.
I had to remove a duct tube that feeds the rear through the console and do a couple of minor cuts with metal snips and gently hammer down some sheetmetal so the units would fit without sticking out.
I got it in a little better than in the closeup pic taken a while back.
Here you go, 1LoudLS
Here's the ipod mod I did. Of course not to the ashtray itself, but since I don't need the ashtray, I can put something in front of it

back when my father was cheif of police in the 60's he said he pulled over a group of kids that absolutely reeked of alcohol... when he asked where it was the kids stated "if you can find it, you can arrest us"
amused, my dad started searching.... spent the next half an hour looking through the car... nothing
finally about a half an hour through he was coming up from underneath one of the front seats and his whistle got caught on the windshield wiper solvent handle.... when the windsheild wiped solvent got hit liquid sprayed out of the hole where the lighter was supposed to be, which happened to be alcohol
they rerouted the solvent lines to the lighter and filled the solvent reservoir up with alcohol... considering it doesn't freeze lol
my father just shook his head and said "anyone this cool I'm not taking to jail" and drove them all home.... then again, this was back in the 60's when people had morals and cops weren't trying to pull money for the man over everything
That's exactly what I use, a composite A/V cable. I just epoxied it under the cradle (I used the cradle that came with the ipod, just painted it flat black)QUOTE]
You got lucky, I had to by a cradle for my iPhone. On the plus side though I did get my composite cable for only 15 bucks online. Beat the hell out of the Apple store's price of 50 bucks!
The hard drive on my phone is only 32GB, but I have an extra 16GB HDD that Alpine only made for about a year that is custom mounted into my amp rack, and its removable. I don't have the need for 120GB of space for music, but with 48GB, a DVD player, and satellite radio I can say that I am not hurting for entertainment options when traveling.
