I have looked around but I can’t seem to find an article on removing all the “air chambers” form the air intake tube for a 94 Mark. Is there one or can someone show me pics and tell me what is involved on doing this mod or even a link to a site that talks about it?

I do understand that I can take the silencer off and put a cap on it (I did see that article http://lincolnsonline.com/article24.html ), but what I am looking for is something talking about how to “cover” the holes with plastic (or something else) after removing the air chambers and making the unit look like it came that way stock. In other words just one long tube going to the filter housing with nothing on the tube.

there have been a few articles, but what most have done is measure the size of the hole needing to fill, and then cut a piece off the 'elephant ear"(silencer that sits atop the intake manifold) of the exact dimension, and epoxy it on. then, sand it down to a smooth finish, and it's "filled".

I left the little rubber snout on it, and used a torque converter cap shoved inside it, and a standard hose clamp to seal it off. Granted mine doesnt look stock, but if I still had a beauty cover it would be hidden anyway.

As far as the cap on the first removable one, I used a 1 1/2 inch pipe cap, but I used the expandable one with the wingnut on it. All you have to do is insert it into the hole and tighten the wingnut for a perfect fit, takes maybe 15 seconds.

I believe some people have just bought fiberglass kits and used that, followed by sanding and painting.

I did the exact same thing. It works great and takes seconds. Buck 50 from Home depot.

Ok thank you everyone... I thought for sure someone would had done a write up on this. I have seen many cars here that look like they have had it done (making the tube smooth).

It is generally easy. What I did when I cut the first 'lung' off, I cut it as close to the tube as possible. I then cut a portion of the 'lung' the same size as the opening that is now in the tube, and then glued it in place. While I was waiting for the glue to set up, I cut the upper spout off as close to the tube as possible again and then took a hole saw that was a bit bigger than the hole and cut it out of the 'lung' that was removed from that spot. I heated it up a bit to make it plyable so it can fit to the contour of the tube and then routed down the edges so I could glue it in place as well. I then mixed up some 'Tiger Hair' and sanded the livin hell out of the intake tube (so that the 'Tiger Hair' had something to stick to). I applied it to the intake after wiping it all down with paint prep (to get all of the tire dressing off of the tube, and the sanding dust as well). I applied the 'Tiger Hair' not only to the top of the tube, but the under side of that lip that runs down both sides (I applied to to both sides as well, so I can get rid of the ledge that is on both sides of the intake tube). I allowed the 'Tiger Hair' to dry properly and then sanded it smooth. Then I used some regular Bondo to smooth out the bumps/air holes that were prevalent, sanded it all smooth (of course after the necessary set up time) and then painted it. Sounds like alot of work, but it is not that much work actually. I have done it to several of the Mark VIII's I have owned, and have done it for a local guy that is on this board as well.

Hope that helps a bit....

Yes it helps thank you... Would you happen to have a pic of "one" of the ones you did or point me to a link to see a pic? Thanks.

All of the above sounds better than the rubber cap & duct tape. Back I go into the cellar. Well at least while I'm down there I can check to see how the mushrooms are doing. Thanks, Ed :beer
