It's going to need a replacement for the passenger side for sure. Are they HID? Can you tell visually?

you can by the defuser (think its called that)... but hard to tell in pic. If you had a under the hood shot.. the headlights would have a yellow sticker if they were... or can tell by vin...

I am going with no. The quality of the photo is pretty bad, but I think I can make out the reflector bowl pattern, and it is not conducive for HID.

No, very basic model.

Reflector? The chrome bucket is the reflector. The metal dome in front of the bulb is the shield. As far as I know, the reflectors look the same, but the shields are different. Gen 2 halogens have a smooth dome appearance. Gen 2 HIDs have a faceted disco ball appearance. All Gen 1s have a hexagonal disco ball.

I have one with HIDs and one with Halogen. Both the reflectors and the shields are noticeably different.

Is there a particular spot to see the difference in the reflector? What should I look for? I can only go off of pictures online and they don't seem any different

It looks like the shield in front of the bulb is different. The halogen looks plain round and the HID looks faceted.

I wouldn't complain if you have the halogen. A replacement HID is around 2 grand, and are rare as hen's teeth these days. If you have a frontal fender bender, the HIDs are expensive enough to total your car due to the replacement cost.

Lol... go to post #7

I was asking about the reflector, specifically, as Joe said both the reflector and shield are different

Looks like it's the same answer.... The halogen appears smooth while the reflector appears faceted... At least that's what I see in the pics...

The reflector will be different because the bulbs works differently, but it may not appear different when you look at it. They both look to be long ridges, but the angles of the ridged areas will be different to accommodate the different light sources. In other words, you won't be able to use halogen housings with an HID setup because the light scatter pattern will be wrong and the headlight performance will be poor. Otherwise, Ford would have just made one housing for both systems to save money and they would have used two different part numbers, one with the HID warning sticker and the other without, to try and keep people from figuring this out and saving money by buying the halogen housing when their HID housing needs to be replaced.

Right, which is what I was asking since Joe said the reflectors were noticeably different. I'm aware of the differences between the bulbs and you'll find me trying to convince people to avoid using Plug N Play HID bulbs for that reason. I prefer to not be blinded

Looks like it's the same answer....

I misunderstood you. I thought you were still talking about the shields. To me, faceted would mean the individual surfaces are relatively flat(96-99 Taurus disco ball headlights), but I can't find the words to describe it otherwise. It looks like several slices of a dome glued together. Gen 1 headlights and Gen 2 brake lights have that ribbed dome appearance, though it's subtle in the headlight
