Does anyone know if all the Stock 6 x 9 rear deck subs are the same in all the different Alpine, THX systems ?

And is the THX stock sub amp different and more powerful ?
Thanks.

And while I'm asking are the door speakers and console mounted tweeters all the same ?

Looking at part numbers...
Looks like the subs and sub amp are the same, THX or not.
Door speakers are different for THX.
No center console speakers (those aren't really tweeters) for THX.

Pioneer made all the components for the THX system. I would assume Lincoln has/had an arrangement with Pioneer. IIRC, the Alpine system uses the same plate speakers as the THX. The base system uses whizzer cone speakers.

Ok if I am understanding/reading correctly. One of you is saying the door speaker for the Alpine are different, the other is saying they are the same for both the Alpine and THX. I'm confused.

Also my 02 LS Sport V8 with Apline non navi has 6 x 9 Sub part # 2W4T-18808-AB. But I have seen some others out of other LS's ( don't know what year or model that they came out of but they are part # XW4f-18808-CA. Can anyone tell me why ?

I have an 03v8 with the THX system, I am currently swapping out right now actually. I don't know a ton about the audio systems in the different years but the THX system has all component speakers with the tweeters in each door, nothing in the console so i would assume the doors differ from the alpine and the THX. As for the subs and amps, I"ve heard the alpines rated at 80 combined? i believe the THX is 90 combined (says 45 on each of my subs). So I don't think the subs are the same, but not far off. The model number on my subs is PM 3W4T-18808-DA. Hope that helps!

Thanks, ok well now that's a "3rd" diifferent model sub part #. FYI my 02 w/ Alpine system says 45 watts on my subs to. Someone must know ? Anyone ?

Hmmm, i guess i could see it being the same subs but its just odd they wouldnt change them for a totally different brand and setup. Whats your amp look like? Do you have the 2 amps? I can take a picture of mine tomorrow if it helps.

The base system has whizzer cone door speakers. The Alpine system has/had (like the THX) plate door speakers. As Lincoln counts them, the base system has 8 speakers and the early Alpine had 12. When the subs were dropped to save weight (in late 2001, IIRC) the count went down to 10.

Don't get hung up too much on part numbers. The same basic part could have many "updated" part numbers.

All I've ever seen is the 1 amp in trunk between 2 subs up on rear deck. Does not mean there is not another one tho. Was never looking for it before.

And also is the front center console aFull range 2 1/2" speaker, not a tweeter ? Anyone ever put a 6 x 9 in the door? Is there enought depth to mount one ?

I do have the Alpine 12 speaker system.

On gen II, there is only the extra amp in the trunk if you had THX nav. The THX door speaker amp is in the trunk of the driver's side hidden behind the trim, similar to the way the REM is hidden behind the trim on the passenger's side.

not gonna happen, the OEM 6x8 uses a molded adapter that sticks out the speaker from the doors inner panel, it is not big enough to be able to trim any plastic away to allow a bigger speaker to fit.

also i do not believe there would be enough room for the magnet, as most 6x9 speakers tend to be a lot deeper and larger than 6x8s, it could possible interfere with the windows operation.

the subs are the same for all years they are 45 watt 2ohms, the door speakers are different. this is a link for the thx speakers. they are really a plate with a component speakers with a tweeter the alpine are same.

the non alpine base system is a single 6x8 speaker. now the thx sounds way better than the alpine and that's due to the better sound processing in the head unit I think the alpine also has 2 amp. one for the doors and one in the rear subs. a lot of LS oweners have testified that they had amazing sound just by replacing the alpine HU with a good aftermarket HU. remember this design was over 10 years old

Ok so thus far we had detirmined that the Alpine System and THX use the same front and rear in door speakers, but the THX does not have the front 2 1/2 console small speakers Right ?

The subs are all the same which I agree all I've seen are 2ohm 45 watt stamped both for the THX and the Alpine. Even tho there are at least 3 different part #'s for them. Right ?

Now has anyone noticed the different back enclosure in the ebay links above ?

The THX seems to have a larger flat back larger airspace, sealed enclosure, and the Alpines seem to have a different lesser airspace molded back cup type enclosure. Am I right about this ??

Yes, the THX does not have the center channel (console) speakers. In my opinion, they are really of very little value.

I haven't looked at the e-bay links, and I can't be sure about how my experience correlates.
My 04 has premium sound and my 06 has THX nav. The "enclosures" around the subs are very different. The nav ones are bigger. Also, the 06 with nav has grills over the rear subs that say "THX." The 04 just has the subs firing through the cloth of the rear package tray (the board under the cloth is cut out for the subs).

I think the alpine also has 2 amp. one for the doors and one in the rear subs.

on every LS sound system except for the THX, the four door speakers are driven off of the headunit's internal amp, if you have the OEM subs, then there is an amp for them, if you have the center console speakers, then there is a small amp for them (mounted next to the steering column)

the THX system is the only system that uses a separate external amp for the door speakers.

Ok thanks but I was talkling about the door speakers not the subs. Are you saying the rear sub enclose (baffle) is different also the part that fits down in, not the speaker grill?

Yes, but I can't say if it is a THX difference, or a difference between years.

Interesting because my 02 LS Sport V8 w Alpine has NO baffle on the rear subs. Only has a carpet truch liner cover that fits up and covers them. Wonder how the soud effect difference is with and without.

Again there's 3 diffrent configurations pointed out.
