The part i am refering to is the furthest piece closest to the windshield, about a 4-5 inch wide panel. It houses the light sensor for the headlights, defroster vents, etc. Its developed a rattle that is pretty damn annoying. I tried looking in different repair manuals and part lists to see how it comes apart, looks like its just some type of clip but i really dont care to start yanking on stuff and breaking it. Figured maybe someone has taken it apart before.

You know, I need to look for sure...but I believe it just pops out. Check for any screws, but if there are, and you remove them, I'm sure it pops out. That's where I have both my XM and GPS antennas. It's been a while since I put them there, but I'm sure it just popped out.

Probably a good place to use a "hook" tool. Like a dental pick, where it can be slid under the corner of the panel and simply pulled straight up to pop it out of the fastener. I couldn't tell you which side should pop up first, but some firm, yet gentle force imparted directly upward should release it and if it doesn't come up that way, then it may not be the correct corner or end to start with. Try the opposite side nex, if that first corner will not lift.

Here is the best picture I can find. The metal clips need to be spread a bit or I have seen duct tape applied to make them fatter so the fit in the holes tighter.
Carefully pry up on the defrost panel. I like to use a nylon pry stick and NOT a screw driver. You can get a pretty nice one from any automotive glass shop. They use them everyday when installing windshields.

just so you know the pillars need to be popped off as well. there is a part of the dash that is connected with pillars. if you don't do this you will be trying to pry it off and break it, as i did. good thing i had the replacement at the time. also, some of the clips that are part of the dash stayed on the actual dash which will not let you install it back on. they need to be removed and placed back on the piece which you are referring to

I use to work a scrap yard a pry bar, hammer, wire cuters and a vise grip!
