okkkkkk.... so my gf is driving down the road in my car (03 LS $80k mi), just going about 30mph (luckily) and the side airbag blows out of the seat, rings her ear like a gunshot, and fills the car with the infamous white dust, she freaks but keeps her cool and pulls into a gas station. inspects the car, has not been hit by anything. the airbag deployed on its own with no impact! this is VERRRRYYY dangerous, if she had been old, or on a wet interstate, or ran over a kid, she is super lucky it happened when it did. i am happy she is ok but FURIOUS about it. im contacting lincoln and my insurance company tomorrow. anyone have this happen? im scared for her (or me really) to drive the car with the airbags crapping out. i want them to replace ALL of them and my perfect black leather heated and cooled driver seat. think they will do anything about it or am i pretty much SOL? i can raise some hell with them if need be ;)

You do have some aftermarket electronics in your car. Are any of those modifications recent. If so, I would point to that as a problem. If the person who was doing the electronics installation used a wrong wire, this could easily happen. If this is not the problem, I would contact Ford directly after a police report is filed.

there was no wreck or anything, you think a police report is necessary??? the only thing that has been done is replacing some bulbs with red bulbs and running an amp/sub. everything else in the electrical system is stock. me and my pro installer friend did that stuff so theres no chance it was anything we did.

Wow, that is dangerous. Good thing no one got hurt.

exactly, this is unacceptable!! luckily it was the side bag and not the steering wheel bag, that would DEFINITELY insure a wreck... she is still kinda "fuzzy" and her ear is still kinda ringing but this could have been MUCH worse! i am VERY unhappy with this incident..

Since it was an incident done a public roadway, there will most likely be a mandate from the insurance company for a police report. You can also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. They take all matters just like this very seriously.

my deductible is $500, so i can find a seat for less than that. im going to call lincoln and my insurance tmrw and see what they say. i want them to replace ALL of the airbags and my seat. at worst i have to find a seat but they need to know about this because it is very dangerous. i will let you guys know what i find out =-)

It's not the airbags you need to worry about replacing. An airbag fault won't cause one to deploy. The fault is somewhere in the wiring, the side impact sensor, the safety sensors, or the RCM (Restraint Control Module). Those are the things that need to be inspected or replaced.

I'd call Ford directly. I do suspect that they want to know about this and that they may replace the seat and resolve the fault in exchange for not worrying about being sued for this.

As rwurst918 said, this also needs to be reported to the NHTSA. They have a web page where you can find all the reports that they have of this happening on an LS.

I've got a feeling that if the situation is handled right. Ford will be taking very good care of you over this incident. I'd contact Ford right now like Joe said

also take her to the doctor cause she needs to be checked out in case this goes to court
