Just picked up a garmin standalone unit.

Still in the planning phase but im thinking i will tap into the fuse box for power by adding a 12v accessory outlet and running the cable all the way to the gps to the left of the steering wheel.

The gps came with a mount that the power plugs into so i can leave the wire attached to the cradle and simply pull the gps off and stow it inside the center console.

This is no different than the several (like me) who have hardwired their radar detectors in. I think there are some posts about this.

Garmin Wiring

I, too, have a Garmin. To keep things uncluttered, I wired a spare lighter socket, sourced from O'Reilly's, into the main 12-volt line to the back of my auxiliary gauge panel, attached to the A-pillar tube on my roll cage. (You can see photos on the first screen in 'Land Speed LS' in the HP section.) I use the suction cup mount in the upper corner of the windshield, and have simply zip-tied the extra power cord into a bundle that'll tuck neatly behind the gauge panel.

Get a "add a fuse"..You can then solder a wire to the nipple of the charger (+) and 1 wire to 1 of the sides (-). Run the + to a switched 12v that you'll use the add a fuse with and then ground the other wire..

Or get a cig type outlet and tap that into the add a fuse..Then plug in the gps.
