And on a side note, how can I tell if my car has a flash- tune or performance chip in it? I was told that if I can rev the motor over 3k in neutral that something has been done. I bought mine used and don't know that much about these things. I did talk to a Lincoln tech who is the one who shared that info about the 3k rpm thing.

No, the coldest air available is outside the car. The coldest, easily accessible air is inside the bumper and fender. The factory intake draws air from there, but does not actually sit in a cold location.

The "CAI" will be a HotAI if you use it without a heat shield. With a shield, it will be a WarmAI, which is pretty close to the stock airbox's setup. Regardless, it won't improve power. It just changes the sound.

Everyone is going to continue to call any metal tube with a cone filter a CAI, just like how everyone is going to continue "getting coilovers" (adjustable coil-over-shocks) despite already having [nonadjustable] coil-over-shocks on most cars.

Actually, the coldest air available to the car would be on Jupiter's moon Titan but that seems a far away place to go for a bit of HP increase. And of course, at -179 degrees centigrade, I think the tires would explode.

the 2nd gen PCM will not let the motor rev above 3k RPM in P, N or R. if tuned, this can be set to something different or just removed. there is no such thing as putting a "chip" in this car. chances are that if the car was tuned by the previous owner, they would have either given you the tuner, or they would have returned the car to its OEM calibration so that it would unlock the tuner allowing them to use it on a different car.

Actually, The air on Jupiter's Moon would not be available to any car driving around on earth. But I think we are splitting cvnt hairs at this point.

I don't know- All I know is a Lincoln tech told me that something was different and I can rev the car to 4-5k in P or N.

if you are talking about a "red chip" like this one



then that is not a chip, it is a lock... when pressed all the way in, it will not allow the harness to be released from the sensor by pressing on the latch normally. you must first pull it out a little bit (unlock the harness) then depress the latch... the other 2nd gen may have just been missing it, it is extremely easy when unlocking it to pull it completely out of the connector, then a lot of people just never put it back in or you pry to hard to pop it out and it shoots across your garage never to be seen again.

if it is not like that clip, then a picture of yours may help us to tell you what it is.

I stayed dead even ,off the line and up to 90 mph against a 2007 BMW Z4 3.0si Roadster. It was back and forth, at the end, I think he would have won by a hair had we kept going. This LS I have is fast. It also has cat-back exhaust

Ya know, you laugh at electric superchargers but BMW is experimenting with them. However, BMW uses it to put instant boost on the engine for a few seconds to counteract turbo lag. It runs for like 3-5 seconds or so, by that time the turbo's kicked in and the electric supercharger turns off. It's actually built into the turbocharger itself. Whine woosh.

I bought it 2 years ago, but don't drive it that much

yes, of course I call a 13 sec car slow, let alone a very high 13 sec car (to put it into prospective, there are near stock focuses running around making those times) and a terminator CAN be fast, but doesn't come that way from the factory, its about where quick begins at the bottom of a very large scale. now however if you have one of those twin screw termi's on meth and DR's, then yes, you may know what fast is.
