Okay, the piece of silver plastic that covers where the shifter is, you know the piece that the Park Reverse Drive signs are on. Well ive noticed that after leaving a standard air freshener around my shifter (laying on this piece of plastic) that with the sun reflecting on it the paint actually melts off. It happend in two spots. So my question is how would i go about re-painting this bc i dont believe i can take that piece off to paint it. any suggestions? can you get interior trim paint for the ls?

the problem is how would i paint shifter square housing piece with the P R D symbols on it. Because that peice will not fit over the shifter so i would have to paint it inside the car?

You take the shift knob off, look at the attached link in post #2, and you can see the square out of the console.

And when you take it off even the little clear windows over the gear IDs pop right out from underneath.

how exactly do you get the shift knob off? so that piece of plastic comes off?

Take from the chrome ring down and just slide that part down, then you will see two small screws to take out, pull knob straight up and off. It may help to have gear shift in a straight up position, and can take some effort to pull straight up.
