Anyone ever give car cigarette lighters a thought?

They might have like a power inverter or something inside.. IIRC, semis run at 16 Volts..

huh. only 16v batterys i've seen were in a drag car. more volts to spin the tiny lightweight starter it had.. and no alternator.

Your right.. The semis that I drive have three 12V batteries in PARALLEL! lol

I feel like a dumba$$ now.. :shifty:

do you know what really grinds my gears...

It is that now ford has the nerve to charge you $40 for the "smokers package" and all that it is a lighter to go in the power port, and a ashtray that goes in the cup holder. well thats just stupid, maybe i want to have a smoke and have people in the car with drinks, now where the hell am i supposed to place my ash tray? between my legs? if you think that a leather burn is bad, just imagine having a bad nut burn, and that is a smell that will never come out, and maybe as a non smoker, i like ash trays because its another near place to put sh!t,(except for you 1st gen'ers, that ash tray is useless, for smokers, the hole is so small and hard to hit the target while driving, and non smokers can keep change in it be cause you cant just pick it out while in a drive through because you would have better luck with chop sticks) 2nd gens are perfect for business cards. also i like the cig lighter mostly because i know if the end of the lighter can stick out where ever it is hidden, then i can take that power port out to have a place for my bass knob to fit custom mounted with out having to worry about any clearance problems (which is also pretty cool for 1st gen'ers because of the way that it pops up when you open the ash tray up)

You NASCAR guys remember Dick Trickle? Winningest short track driver in history. Had a short career in the big time. He had a cig lighter in his race cars back in the day and would light up during the caution periods. NO JOKE!

To all of you smokers that don't smoke in your cars.... have you heard of smoke odor removing deodorizers?

Available at just about any auto parts store. Most detailers have the good stuff, though.

Vacuuming your headliner helps alot too

Forgot one key use for the cigarette lighter.

Watch Disney's Goofy Movie, there is a scene when Goofy and his son are trapped inside their car because Bigfoot is outside, dancing to Stayin Alive, makes me think of Travolta. I digress... Goofy pops out the cigarette lighter and heats up a can of soup on top of it. I love this scene.

So there a real practical modern use for the lighter.

If I recall correctly he also opens it with his teeth.... are you suggesting that as well? :D

a guy i work with never has his :q:q:q:qing lighter and i carry a zippo and he always wants to use it..... i dont even have a cigar lighter in the car my gauges are there now

I hate that.

smokers who dont carry lighters arent as bad as smokers who carry they own smokes.

Well, were they in cahoots with the tobacco industry? Egging us all on to think we needed to smoke a cigarette or cigar to be in fashion? Of course I'm talking about the 40's through the late 80's.

Nowadays, they call them power ports and do not include the lighter element. They now just have a plastic cover on them. I'm not sure but I don't think you can order a real lighter these days from the factory.

In the very older days, 20's and 30's, they had compartments to hold your cocaine containers! That was big back then and we didn't see everyone in counseling/rehab like today. Today, that's used as an excuse to be a user yet have everyone's sympathy, especially the courts.
