I have a 96' so it has a factory D Din radio already but as I went out tonight to scope out the situation I just placed the cage over the stock radio. Wow was that thing bigger! A bit to cold and dark for my to play around pulling the radio out to see how much room I would have behind the factory center console face plate.

So I did a search but couldn't find any pictures off hand of anyone who had put in any after market double dins

I have a 96 and installed a JVC with a 12 disk (remote) changer - the head unit is a single din, but it has an adapter so it now has a small bin under the radio-if you need model numbers, let me know and I'll get them (car is in the back of the garage, under 2 covers, and hibernating for winter).

I think the 96 is 1.5 din - about. I dont think its a double din.

Here is a shot of my Pioneer Avic D3 in my 96.

It's a double din but I'm going to have to cut my hole about a quarter inch or less? I didn't want to have to cut the dash so if I sell the car I could put the factory radio back in without anything permanently changed.

It is looking like I can have the IVA-W205's face fit in the factory hole but I don't think it will have enough room behind it to fit back there depth wise

I had to do a little trimming around the woodgrain (not the actual woodgrain), but she pretty much fit right in.

I got the steering wheel from ford. Is a super rare custom one they made specifically for my car. Cost $10,000. My car is now a true factory custom. It must be worth around $25,000 now. Anyone interested in buying?

How much of a problem with the installation of the JVC with 12 disk remote changer, wiring etc. 582boat

Liar, I'd still like to see those weld jobs on that wheel!

It was easy, you get a kit for the head unit and the changer goes where the factory unit went, was simple to connect to the existing harness-if you need model numbers and photos, let me know-now I can burn copies of CD's that actually play in the changer. It has a wireless remote (kind of a gimmick, but cool nontheless) and detachable faceplate too. The total was less than $400
Sounds great too.

and I did not cut my dash, the kit I got came with a small bin that I keep sun glasses and small crap in, it is a 1+1/2 din.

I cut mine with a dremel, very easy to install and worth the 20 seconds it took to cut it.

Same, except it took me longer because I had to keep going back and cut more off. The part you cut will not show once the head unit is in. The Pioneer unit is very popular apparently, but I chose the AVN-5510 and absolutely love it.

welll ive never even sat in a Gen1 :p ......i assumed its the same hole, its the same radios. except us Gen2 people got the air bag module behind the radio..........i just pushed the thing back and it fit :)

My first and only Mark 8 is my 96' and I have looked at a 93', 94', 95' and then a 97' and a 98'. I must say I did not like the early models cause they had single din dashes and although I kinda liked the Gen II's they are as much of a pain as the 96'.

So the only reason I would sell my car is for a Sunroof Mark 96' or up. However I now have a spare 96' engine cause it is intake wise 96's only. So if and when my engine bites it I have the parts to fix it. That and when I put my Alpine in I will fall in love with it all over again pretty much

This thread let me see a bunch of D Din installs too and I liked the 96's the most looks wise.

93-94 look the same, 95-96 look the same (but different climate control unit), and 97-98 look the same.

Yeah but the 96' has a superior engine trans over the 95'. Not much but better and as I had posted on a thread some years ago the only reason I have my 96' is I got it $1000 and was in need of a car bad.

Now that I have used and abused this thing along with putting in a Track Lock 4.10 rear, well I love it :p

Gonna love it even more as soon as I put in my IVA-W205, GPS and Sirius! Other thing that I miss about my IVA-300 in my WRX is that I can play MP3's I burn to a DVD/RW so I have a ton of songs on one disc :D

another diffrence is the 93 94 have a single din radio opening. I am going to try to convert that to a double din and i hope it works out. I like the look of the double dins better than a single din flip out.
