Check out page 51. Half is dedicated to LED lighting control, including software control and brightness over color when using RBG LEDs. The other half covers digital control over HID lighting. Both are for automotive uses. I was looking into this controller for a completely different kind of project, but since lighting seems to be important here thought I'd throw it out and see who wants to run with it. I have no interest in lighting, myself.
On the LED, it looks like one could probably use this to run LEDs that slowly drift through a color change from red to green to blue to red. Set it up so it does it very, very slowly and screw with your passengers.
