Any Help Near By?

I have always been escorted into the repair area and shown the parts that need to be replaced and why. Even though I have never asked. Maybe it's a CA thing....

I have too. I assume some shops have been hit with injury claims, and others haven't.

I was confused about it when they told me I couldn't go back there. I mean, it's MY car back there. I was allowed to go into the shop when my car was getting checked at another mechanic. Im guessing it is a liability thing

It is a liability thing, but I have never heard of a shop where they don't have the ability of showing you, on the car, the needed repair. If they won't even escort you I would FIND ANOTHER MECHANIC!!!!! Isn't this the guy that said your fuel filter was in the tank?

Just what are they hiding? I wouldn't trust these guys with my lawnmower!

Ive stood under my car on the lift while they were working on the exhaust.

Me too. I've been escorted from the waiting room (dealer and independent) to the car so they could show me what needed to be repaired. Then I was able to make a decision on whether I wanted to tackle the repair or just let them do it.

No one escorted me when the dealer pulled my engine and i took pictures, which they approved prior to entering the shop. <---See avatar pic.
I would get a second opinion somewhere with the issue you are having.

If oil and anti-freeze aren't mixing anywhere, then the only way left for a head gasket to fail is to have blown-out to the side of the block. That's REALLLLY rare as in only seen that happen maybe once and it was on a modified blown engine.

From your posts I would look at two things:
1) Cooling fan system not working (Bad actuator/pump/etc)
2) Plastic cooling system components have started leaking

I know on the V8 that air in the cooling system can cause all kinds of funkyness. I have a gen2 with electric fan setup so can't really comment much on the gen1 hydraulic setup.

I'm near Tampa in St. Pete. If you are still in the area then I can recommend a dealer and an independent shop that are near me. I use them to do things I don't want to. No clue who to recommend in Tampa proper.

There are rare failures where a path for combustion products (at high pressure) opens to a coolant passage. In that case, exhaust gases will inject into the cooling system, but there will be no mixing of oil and water. This must be what they are claiming, as blowing out the side wouldn't cause his symptoms.

I do agree that other faults are more likely, but not seeing the car or knowing what tests they've done, I can't say that what they are saying is impossible.

In Clearwater, there is Autoway Lincoln. There are two service writers (brothas) that each own 2nd Gen LSes. The mechanic that worked on my car allowed me to look under the car while it was on the lift.

They have free doughnuts and internet stations you can play on while you're there too.

Thanks for the help guys. I just got confirmation that's NOT the head gadgets. 2 different independent mechanics checked for me. While at one, the mechanic checked to see if it was properly bleed and it wasn't. While it was bleeding the heat started to run hot (first time it's done that since I've owned the car.

I'm guessing it's never been properly bleed. I wasn't able to stay at the shop long so I don't think it had the chance to bleed all the way. I'm figuring out how to bleed it now and will let you guys know how it turns out. Hopefully everything stays even leveled from now on.

Forgot to mention that I got the thermostat changed again. I will try to do the actuator soon as I can

UPDATE!! I went to PepBoys to get a 4th opinion on what my overheating problem could be. They did the block test and confirmed it wasnt the gaskets and told me with everything ive done to it already, it seemed like the water pump was bad. Being my last hope, I decided to let them go ahead and change it out.

4hrs later my car came out officially overheating FREE!! I was in relief and doubt. I've had this problem for so long, I had trouble soaking it in. It really hit me once I drove off the lot and went down I-75 for 100miles (50 away 50 back) to check it out. I even did city driving and not once did the needle even think about moving past half way

Thanks to everyone that has given me advice on what to do and look for. I will try to have pictures up soon.

I'm very happy for you! I wouldn't let Pep Boys air my tires, but it seems they were infinitely more competent than your dealer!

Hahaha thanks LS4me. I'm hoping this is the last issue, at least for a while. I can now focus more on doing a couple of mods now. I am grateful that this issue made me change any possible future problems
