another sunroof issue

SO, my sunroof felt like it was stuck a few times when opening and closing but it would always eventually pop open, well, when I went to close it yesterday it slid back shut but didn't rise up to seal tight. When I push the button I can hear a motor whirring, but I can't even push the window up into sealed place. So to recap: it will open all the way, and it will slide all the way forward, but it won't pop up and seal shut. Any ideas what to check? Never worked on a sunroof before.

ideas? i'd rather not have to drop the headliner... is there troubleshooting I should do?

You'll end up dropping the sunroof....sounds like you either stripped the worm gear for the slides or the teeth on the motor. There are a TON of parts in a sunroof unit....mine is laying on the workbench right now getting a rebuild kit installed I bought from the Sunroof Doctor....

if you slide the headliner back, there is a bracket on each side. Pop the front end of them out and there are two star screws on both sides in the front and back end that you can see. Take those screws out and there ya have it. It sounds like you broke the track and thats whats keeping it from going up. But you can put it back on track and reinstall the sunroof, it just wont be working until you can get a kit for it.
