I searched a bunch of "idle" threads, but most have to do with either a fast idle, or issues with the idle at red lights and such, leading me to believe this takes place later in during the drive.

My situation is different...it's only on start up, the car feels like it wants to shut off, and it'll sputter between 400 and 600 RPM until it gets warmed up. Once I put it in drive or reverse to pull out, it will usually shut off on me. Once I get her going though, it runs fine...no idle issues at red lights at all, MPG is fine (averaging 21+), and no other odd issues. Do you guys think it's still the IAC, or is it probably just plugs and/or wires?

mine does that as well. fine when its warm. prolly needs a TPS and IAC. mine are both 180,000+ miles old.

I'd bet dollars to donuts you have a vacuum leak. The Gen 1's are notorious for needing manifold gaskets. Spray some starter fluid around the intake while the car is doing the erratic idling. If the idle levels out and gets smooth, then you need to replace the gaskets. Not a fun job.

very good point. look on top of the intake manifold where the two wires make a Y. Mine was cracked right there and did exactly what you are talking about. (these wires go in below the IAC on a gen 2 and make a distinct y )
