another ls tranny issue

I have read about a hundred threads trying to find my issue with my transmission and still coming up with no answers so its time to post.

My issue started when I got stuck in the snow. Like an idiot I rocked it out going from reverse to drive and back and forth.

The issue started out with reverse not engaging until reved up real high and no 1st gear or automatic gears. I could shift the car manually through every gear but once in 5th it would not downshift. I drove it like this a couple days as it was my only vehicle to and from work. It wont go into any gear now besides 1st.

I had the codes read and dont have them on hand now but 2 were incorrect gear ratios and 1 was a transmission fluid pressure issue.

Would it be a solenoid issue or a servo issue?
 
Actually, it is written in the owners manual that you CAN rock the transmission if you're stuck in mud, snow, etc... as long as you take break intervals in between. Probably busted a few seals in the process resulting in low pressure throughout the transmission. I wouldn't drive it more unless you get it over to a shop. Replace the valve body, solenoid pack, and servo bores as you have the chance. You'll probably metal shavings in the pan by now from metal on metal contact from no proper lubrication (psst. get a new or rebult tranny.)

I'm sorry chief, you're going to need a new/rebuilt/used transmission. This car has its share of transmission problems, but a transmission that is only utilizing 1 out of 6 available gears is shot.

Probably the important thing is to brake to a complete stop of the spinning wheels before changing from reverse to drive or drive to reverse.

My dad does this all the time and it literally makes me want to punch him in the face... reverses out of the driveway doesn't come to a complete stop and puts it into drive... GRRR

At very low speeds, I don't think it's a big issue. However, if the tires are spinning at 30+ MPH (even though the car isn't moving), then that's a lot of momentum to suddenly reverse. I've heard of the axles on some front wheel drive cars snapping when this is done to them.
 
Well when I finally got the car unstuck it acted like the traction control was always on as well even though the switch was off. When I did the reverse to drive I hit the brake in between. Ill have to pull the pan sometime soon to see if I find anything broke or shavings

You're probably right, but every car he's ever had has needed a transmission at one point or another (mostly Lincolns), so I make sure I come to complete stops, whats another 2 seconds?

Stylez there are a ton of posts here with how-to's on the transmission repairs, however I truly believe you'll need a replacement. Unless you're really good with a wrench, I'd drive it while it still moves to the closest reputable transmission place.
 
Well I am mechanically inclined but dont know that I could rebuild a tranny. I have replaced the 3-4 shift spring myaelf with the tranny still in car. Not to bad besides the shower in tranny fluid.

Similar to flipping 'ON' the PDL (Power Divider Lock) on big rigs during wheel spin or during a curve in the road.

Big sticker on the switch, "Do Not Engage during Wheel Spin" ... the painful sounds of a clunk and than some grinds afterwards would suggest one F'ed up.

Not 100% the same as one is transmission gearing related and other is driveline axles but the idea of clashing the internals I would reference here.
