I started the Mark tonite and got 2 annoying noises appear through the speakers - the usual alternator hum that changes with revs and a VERY annoying constant low pitch hum, even with the stereo turned off. Now, i have had this before but it would normally stop a few seconds after starting the car, but now it won't stop at all. Any ideas? Any particular grounds/connectors to look at? Im driving the car over 1000 miles on Tuesday so would like to get this sorted quickly. Thanks in advance. Martin.

Is you system stock?

Either way the first things I would check and clean the contacts of are the little black boxes mounted to the coil packs. These are suppose to suppress ignition noise.

Hi Unity! Yeah the system is a completely stock JBL stereo. (that sometimes works - Lol) Will try cleaning the condenser contacts and maybe some of the ground straps. Thanks for the tip!

I wonder is the amp is going out? You mention it sometimes works. Maybe the AMP, if damaged, is overly sensitive.

Yeah i reckon the amp and head are on the way out. That humming has stopped and the stereo is working again which is odd lol. Will give everything a clean up and check the connections though. May have just been moisture from the car having sat for a few days. Thanks for the advice.

Lol. No i wont be buying stock stuff when $$ permits. The whole lot will be junked along with the wiring and replaced with audio quality stuff.

Fixed!!!

It was the cell phone module causing interference... removed... no more buzzing, humming or cutting out! The stock stereo is good again! :)

Hi mafioso! The module is located on the plastic package shelf in the trunk. Its a large, quite heavy, black painted metal box with an aerial lead going into it. You will know it when you see it.

Hold your horses there 21st! Lol. It worked for me, but sometimes the problem can be the amp, the head or the connections. By all means give what i did a try, just be aware that these old systems can be temperamental!

well mine started after I bumped the tray installing my air tanks. so I think its the right path to follow.
