Android ODB2 Car App

http://amerituner.com/?paged=4 About half way down

I did a review for the ones for IPHONE. which I am sure are similar. take a look, I like rev2 the most and here is a free version.

Interesting stuff, but we have different apps on the Android market. Unforunetly for me, I hate IOS, so it can be hard to find app reviews (since so many people focus on IOS, not Android). Hopefully it will even out eventually, considering Android has over 50% of the worlds share of smartphones, but not as of yet. Even the damn head unit I want to get has iPhone functionality but not Android... (though last night I did figure out they came out with a new version this year that has both)

I use Torque on my Droid phone with a Kiwi OBD2 Bluetooth adapter. Works pretty good and lets you monitor most things on the car. Can also scan for codes and do data logging with GPS mapping. The video recording with overlay doesn't work that great though. Seems to crash on my phone when I try to record anything. All the temperature settings and sensors seem to work. Even shows what gear I am in for data logging. I would use rpm, throttle absolute, temperature, gear, acceleration, and speed. Works good for drag racing. Unfortunately the GPS logging is not quick or precise enough for autocross since it only has a 4-second resolution and is only good within 3 meters. Would work fine for something like an extended test drive or similar.

I also used Torque on my brother's 2010 Impala when he bought it to scan for codes and do a drive cycle test. The drive cycle test actually verifies that the systems of the car are working (from the sensors point of view). Like the cats kick in, the EGR, brake pressure, ABS, etc.

Here is my adaptor: http://www.plxkiwi.com/kiwibluetooth/hardware.html

Note that generic OBDII/Bluetooth adapters work just about as well and can be had for $20-$40. I bought the USBKey, which was also about $100. The SW package is decent that came with it.
Ones that can be hardwired can capture at a much faster rate, but have to go to a PC. Look for USB instead of serial.

i also use torque for Android, BEST APP EVER!

i successfully linked a maxima, altima, corolla, g35, lincoln ls, all with no issues
i was able to read and clear codes for my lincoln, using cheap ebay elm327 blutooth adapter (the black version, worked with the standard version too my friend bought one).

if you dont care about the gauges you can download the lite version for free and scan/clear OBDII codes

but the full version has copy to clipboard, paste codes on notepad / send to email, search google etc, very very handy

also has a HUD mode: the gauges are reversed and it is meant for you to put your cellphone lying flat and the reflection of the gauges will be visible on the windshield, pretty neat, but looks tacky if not setup properly

if you go on the official forums theres a lot of inspiring setups,
cant wait for the new generation Android Double din headunits,
the gauges will loook sickkkkk on that, and you can also change the skin of the gauges
(im using black n blue)

Nice dude. Good stuff. Didn't realize they have android headunits. What have you heard about them? Any good? Anything good on the way?

I also use torque app. I use it with the elm327 Bluetooth obd II I bought from eBay for $15. Works great at reading codes. I had a a misfire and it led me to the correct cylinder.

they have 3 units i believe scheduled to be release this spring
not many reviews so far

kinda expensive, just looked at it, 799$! i remember reading a few months ago about it being around 500 for its release...

i am also looking at pioneer`s appradio 2, has android support but only for limited apps so far, i like the sleek minimalist interface, also scheduled for this spring

pioneers has a lot of work to do to make the newer app radio worth considering, like probably starting with making them their self. great idea, just piss poorly implemented.

I've been wanting to do a hi-fi setup in my LS for a while. Got an idea for imbedding the tweeters in the a-pillar covers, replacing the door speakers, getting the 2-speaker center console, the works, but just really don't like any of the head units.

I want an android-powered head unit. That would be AWESOME! Something else I would have to do. I looked into the carputer thing but my options for a radio tuner with any sort of polish or finish sucks. If that $800 HU gets below $500 I might be pulling the trigger on that too.

If you really want high fidelity, you don't want any speakers located in the center console.

Yeah a little pricey and the specs on them are pretty sad. Really? The specs are two years behind. The 2.2 OS is two years old, it's been two years since devices had 800mhz processors (other than in low end devices), WOW 256mb of RAM and 800x480 screen resolution. Those are TERRIBLE specs!

I am instead putting a 7" tablet in the dash that I paid $240 for (used in perfect condition). I'll build it so that I can pull the tablet out as well and take it with me. I will have 4.0 OS, 1.5 or 1.6 dual core processor, 1GB of RAM and 32GB storage for music.

Well some caveats have to be made. I certainly don't want to start cutting on the dash. Maybe instead of "hi-fi" I would reword it to just be a better sound stage. Going by my ear I need highs, more accurate mids, and lower (but not sloppy) bass. For me I think that would best be accomplished by tweeters in the a-pillar covers, upgraded door speakers, and a reworked rear deck/sub. I was going to include the center console speakers so that I could get more accurate mids. I might just leave it alone and go with a better two-way speaker for the doors.

I just know that the stereo in the LS isn't bad compared to others, but it has room for improvement. Plus an upgraded HU would get me one of the few features I really wish I had: Bluetooth Phone Integration. Also plan to put a microphone either in the A-pillar or the center plastic overhead storage thing behind the rear view mirror.

Only problem is no radio, HD radio, satelite radio, etc. :(

My point was that having a sound source in the front center of the car does nothing good for stereo separation. The rest of the plan doesn't sound bad.

(My 04 has the center console speakers. They aren't a big negative, but I don't see them as a positive either.) My 06 with THX is pretty good, but it could be better.

I will be getting online radio instead of satellite. I will install a aftermarket cd player with HD, usb inlet for about $120 behind it. The tablet dash housing will tilt down to access this.

Yeah those specs are a joke. Considering what you can get for that kind of money tablet wise. If they released one with ICS and decent specs it would be amazing. For now I'm probably going to go with a Pioneer AVIC-X940BT.

I have torque and have used it in my brothers LS, works great. It also works wonderfully in my Speed 6.

+1

unless you have a DSP to take those speakers in to account, they will only harm the sound stage.

I am holding off on doing it to my '02 because plans changed and I am most likely selling it this spring or summer and replacing it with a 2nd Gen in the Fall.
