So its been a long time since I have posted on here. Been lurking here and there. So it is all finally starting to catch up to me and the problems are beginning.

I have a 2002 LSE v8 with almost 130k on it. I have done the regular coil changes as they fail and that isn't a problem. What I am starting to have a problem with is starting. sometimes it kicks right over, sometimes it takes a second of staying on the key to get it to kick. Smells like gasoline when it takes a minute to start. After doing a search I think its the IAVV but I'm not 100%. any ideas?

Other problem I am having is a shudder shifting between 3rd and 4th. just during the shift. I don't have any other problems with this slush box. I'm due for a tranny flush so maybe that is it.

Thoughts?

Thanks guys!

On the start, try just barely cracking the throttle. If it always starts just fine, then the IAC could be dirty, slightly clogged, failing, etc. The strong gas smell may indicate a leaky injector, however.

IIRC, there's a band release from 3rd to 4th. I don't think I've heard of just that shift being a problem before. Make sure that's the only problem and it's really 3rd to 4th.

So I have done the cracking the throttle and it doesn't help. Sometimes she kicks right over other times she doesn't. It's almost like the choke is always on and it is flooding out a bit when it's warm and I try to start it.

Counting the shifts it is def between 3 and 4. Very noticeable shudder during the shift. Shifts fine otherwise.

I think that leaves you with:
Marginal coil(s).
Failing MAF.
Failing fuel pump.
Leaking fuel injector(s).
Bad PCM relay/socket. bad fuel pump relay/socket.
Wiring fault.
