For about the past month i have been having starting/charging problems.I have a optima red top battery and the stock alt.I have two amps in the trunk a 760 watt pioneer 2ch and a 325 watt 4 ch amp.All i have done since the problem is this my 2ch watt blew a channel so i bridged both my tens on one channel. Then my 4ch amp blew two channels so i have 4 6x8 speakers hooked to two channels. My question is would this put a load on my alternator?I got my battery checked yesterday they said it was fine.At idle im getting the same readings from both 13.4 from the alt and battery. All of my sound system speakers are infinity by the way.

These cars already have a pretty high electrical load on them unmodified, enough that the stock alternator can have trouble keeping up under some rare conditions. I'd have the alternator checked throughly. If that's good then do a search on the big 3 upgrade and I think that a CVPI 200 amp alternator is an almost bolt on.

the stock alternator has it's hands full keeping up with the loads imposed by all the electrical stuff, much less those amps-I got a 220 amp from DbElectric, I think they are in Tennessee, for about $230 shipped. Also, 13.4 volts at idle is on the low side of where it should be. Mine is almost 14 volts @idle, I have a 1000 CCA battery (850@0 degreees) and never have a problem.

i did the big 3 upgrade its up to 13.7 but i was saying isnt the alternator supposed to read higher

i was just looking at those, my car is charging but its delayed...start charging in a minute or 2 or sometimes 5min, and the battery light doesnt come one, left me stranded tonight pooch my battery out...

changed the battery to a new one, and same problem car took a few mintues to actually start charging, anyone run into this? I got a spare alt. on my parts car, so im gonna try that first

how is the DB piece, how long have you had it?

I bought it about 3 years ago now-took off the (working) stock alternator because I had problems with it keeping the battery charged-my car can sit for weeks at a time without being used, not a DD. I periodically put a 2 amp charger on it to keep it charged up.

I believe that stock is 90 amp, and the cobra is 120-130-maybe 110 I dont know for sure so ask max.

stock amps is 120, then they went up to 130, Cobras are 130 so im guessing it was 96 when they went 130............

you should be seeing 14.xx volts at idle........ battery should stay at least at 12 when off............

then again depends on the car, dads little Sentra cranked and started with just 9 volts on the damn battery :shifty:
