So is a "P0274 alternator load input...." (correct me if im wrong on any of that) related specifically to the alt or does it account for the entire charging system.

I think you have the wrong code there. That should be a fuel injector code.

Sometimes, on some alternators, you may get a sound from a failed diode, but my experience is that they don't make any sound you could hear.

If yours wasn't recently rebuilt, I would suspect that your brushes are worn out.

When my wife's failed all I got was a whining sound coming from the alternator area. It sounded nothing like a bearing.

Awwwww.... The charging system blows anyway......
