Hey guys,

I need an alternator for my '97 LSC.

I was hoping to find one at a pull yard as I am broke right now.

What, if any, other makes and models can be pulled from for a match?

On Ebay I see several aftermarket alternators that claim compatibility with Crown Victorias, Mustangs and Mark VIII's, but I doubt the validity of that, and if the OEM alternators would work the same way anyway.

Does anyone know?

Thanks.

1996-2002 Crown Vic
1996-99 Mustang
1996-98 Mark VIII

I've also heard all Mark VIII's are the same and 2002-04 Explorers/Mountaineers, 2003-04 Aviators, 1995-2002 Continentals, & 1999-2002 Town Cars will also work!

Thanks for the quick response.

I was at the pull yard looking at one under the hood of a 2000 town car, but I wasn't sure.

My alternator part reads: F6LU-CC

Should the town car (or other) part have the same number?

The Crown Vics are SOHC, right? Does that make a difference?

1st gen Mark VIII alternators won't work on 2nd gens. The post that the heavy gauge positive wire attaches to is different on 1st gens sticks out the back and hits the intake manifold of a 2nd gen. If the alternator on the 1st gen has been replaced at some point it might work.

I ended up finding a working alternator from a 96 at pick n pull in Fairfield, Ca

If anyone's interested...the car was real clean, straight body, with some Windows smashed and the trunk popped open, maybe it was broken into. The engine was still in it and everything was clean looking.
