I bought a new alarm that I got off ebay since I thought the remote I had didn't work.

I couldn't get the new one to work very well so I took the remote module out of the car and cleaned off all the overspray off of it that had gotten on there when I painted the car.

Doing that extended the range from 2 feet to 20 yards to that helped significantly, but I still have a weird problem.

It seems when the car has been sitting for a while either locked or unlocked the remote won't lock or unlock the doors. If I go up to the car and hit the pad on the door and 'wake up' the car then try to use the remote it works great.

Anyone know what this could be? I thought it might be a ground issue but don't know which ground it would be?

Any thoughts?

edit: It seems if I go back to the car within 20 minutes and try to open using the remote it works, but if I wait any longer it won't and I'll have to 'wake up' using the panel.

Door ajar sensor or you left a dome light on. Thats my best guess.

Dome light is out of the car along with the entire headliner.

Another question. Although I've asked about it before I'm not sure if my understanding is right.

As far as the 'driver settings' goes. If I have the memory settings turned off, then I unlock, turn on the car and turn off reverse mirrors then turn the car off and turn the car on again. Should the reverse mirrors still be off or should they reset back to on b/c memory settings are off?

edit: btw: regarding the first issue. It seems if I go back to the car within 20 minutes and try to open using the remote it works, but if I wait any longer it won't and I'll have to 'wake up' using the panel.

Thanks

Drivers settings. Yes.

Power issue, you have something draining power and the car is going into sleep mode. It thinks the trunk or doors are open.

I bet it's the fuse Issue I'm having with the glitch ballast. After wiring it up it blows a fuse so I've been having to keep the fuse out while driving and putting it in when I need to open the trunk.

I'll try that out. Thanks

Nope, that wasn't the issue. But talking with Gman he agrees that because the system will not go into 'program mode' when trying to program a new remote that there must be something wrong with the module in the door. ( I know I'm using the right code.)

You never said it wouldnt go into program mode.

Is the door switches. Trust me. Been there, done that. I had the same issue. Its actually the power-sentry kicking in. Next time leave it unlocked. Then when you get inside, press the brake pedal. Interior lights should come on.

I think its the same sensor that causes door ajar messages, but I did not have that issue. Yet cleaning that sensor (inside the door by the latch) fixed this problem for me until i got rid of the car.

I didn't think of it. :-/

Also: while I was inspecting the wires in the door the other day for wear (did find a bare wire) I found one wire on the drivers side door in the wire loom that comes out below the handle area that didn't connect to anything nor did I find anything for it to connect too. The plugs all had a wire in every slot.

Just thought I'd throw that out there in case anyone knows what that would be.
