Hello all, I'm in the process of sprucing up my LS with a new air horn assembly (childish yes, I know). I've gotten everything pretty much hooked up except I'm having a hard time finding a 12v constant in the engine bay for the relay. Can anyone direct me to one that is easily accessible? Thanks!

Look deep within the passenger wheel well, across from the starter, there's a red plastic covered positive terminal.
It's live fused power direct from the battery and "may be" what you are looking for.

sample:

in the passenger side wheel well, against the firewall - there is a positive jump point.

Thanks! Tomorrow I'll get right on it.

Is it accessible without removing the wheel?

Turn the wheel, get your head in there, should jake it up though.
Also there's a power terminal under the main fuse box.

Just poke around the engine bay fuse panel. There's lots of constant on fuses that you can add a cheater circuit.

Or go to your local auto parts store and get an Add-A-Fuse.........

I do see a few open fuse slots available in the engine bay fuse box with a contact on side but no contact on the other. Could i add that Add-A-Fuse thing into one of those?

I think you would need a contact on the other side to make a complete circuit.

No, you only need the hot side. It will be the hot side that has a contact, since that will be a bus bar more or less. The only problem that you may have is that it won't be held in very well mechanically, because it will only hold on the side with the contact.

BTW, I wouldn't call the power junction at the wheel well fused. It can carry enough current to melt any wire that you might attach to it. It carries the hundreds of amps that the starter may pull.

Lol Joe you got to it before me.

I do have a way of preventing that from happening. I might just tape it down with the 18 gauge wire jammed in there

The question is now, do those contacts provide power at all?

when I need constant power under the hood, I just use a use the main mower connection inside the bottom of the fusebox. i have the wires exit the bottom of the box with the rest of the wires right in to a waterproof fuse holder.

Do you have to pull the fuse box up to get to that main connection? I might do that if the fuse holders don't have power to them.

Joegr, thanks for the correction, indeed the feed to the auxiliary terminal post in the passengers wheel well is not fused as I previously mentioned. I was mistaken by the 175 AMP Mega fuse directly from battery protecting the BJB (Batter Junction Box), said same feed runs battery to starter but without a fuse.

fudge, what size is this air horn you are planning on installing? are we talking train horn, bigrig horn or just on of those smaller direct air pump horns? In the case of those large train horns, I know they need to run a heavy air compressor pump to tank which will require a much large amperage. 20 AMP from the fuse box won't do it. With anything that's going to need to run an air pump to a expansion air tank before horn is going to need some serious amperage I would think.

~ just wondering ... Any pics of this supposed air horn set up?

What's the draw listed on the air pump ?

220W, 26 AMP, 5 Gallon Tank, Average Fill time: 1 Min 30 Sec, 150 PSI burst.

NOTE: "Hearing Protection Required"

Sure that's not your plans, I've pulled the shiny chrome lever in a custom Rig with something like this and it was simply stupid ridiculously loud. They are even considered illegal in most places/states/provinces.

Looks like you'll be alright of the fuse box with something of a smaller set up.

another option for the glovebox would be,

No 12V needed, LOL, just kidding!

depending on how big they are, you could paint them black, and mount them in front of the radiator behind the lower grill.

In regards to wiring from the fuse box. It's more of a current draw I'm sure, but my HIDs, as are Alax's, are hooked into the engine bay fuse box. See my thread below.

In regards to legality, aren't they all illegal if used for a non-emergency purpose?
