I recently purchased a '99 Continental and wanted to drop in a K&N Filter, but a label on the air box recommended that only dry filters should be used. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I would definately NOT use K&JUNK air filter in your continental. The mass air flow sensor in all fords is very sensitive to contaminants. I have seen many air intake systems coated with oil from those junk air filters. My 2 cents

Nothing is "really" wrong with the K&N, they do sort of filter, not as well as paper, but the issue in question is related to the hot wire MAF and contamination. Many owners cheerfully toss their K&N into the trash after replacing a MAF.

Two caveats;

MAF deterioration is gradual and not easy to detect until engine management issues are causing obvious problems unless you carefully track fuel consumption.

Most of the damage is due to over oiling the filter.
