Hey everyone,

I bought a 97 Mark VIII back in October (my first car), and so far it has been great. The only thing I had to replace was the air compressor (just died in June) and all the bags are great. But since I bought it, the air conditioner has not worked at all. I had my mechanic check out the freon levles, and he says that it has 2 lbs, which he said is max. It is not a big deal, since the average temp is 80F in New England, but sometime I would like to get it fixed.

So, is it hard to do, or very time consuming? Also, how much would it cost to fix it? I didn't have the mechanic check into it anymore than the freon levels, just to make sure. I have heard that Mark VIII's have shotty air conditioning units, not sure how true this is though.

Thanks in advance for any help!

what's wrong with it?... when I got mine nothing worked in it... but you could tell the compressor would kick in cause the idling changed... I tried a lot of stuff... first the blower clip cause that's what everyone said prolly was the problem... then the blower... and I took it to a shop and they tested everything... even the relay... they couldn't figure it out... I just had a guess and bought a relay and it worked fine after that... I'm sure your's is probably a lot more in depth... but yeah :)

Kinda need more info - what does not work - just the A/C - defroster work OK does the new compressor come on at all?
When you replaced the compressor did they replace the dryer too (a must if you open the system)?

Blend doors are the most common issues related to heating and A/C issue - do a search or just looka the Tech section.

Just the AC does not work. Defroster works fine, heat is wicked hot. The mechanic said it could be the blend doors, but wasn't sure how hard of a job it is to get to.

The compressor, dryer, and relay were replaced.

start your car turn on max ac open the hood, see if the compressor is runnig, and check the lines at the accumualtor, see if they are cold.

if they are it sounds like your blend door.
if compressor isnt running or lines are not getting cold then its something in your a/c system

Yes, the lines are cold and the compressor comes on. It must be the blend door. How hard is this to fix? Thanks.
