Lets try this again. Which cooling sensor controls the cooling fan? I replaced the cooling sensor on the right side with the 2 wire plug in. I did see one on the left side with 1 wire. Does the 1 wire cooling sensor control the fan? Or is there a third one I don't see?

really neither one controls the cooling fan, its the pcm via the relay box that does it (can't remember the acronym for it right now). The one wire is for the gage and the 2 wire is for the pcm. The pcm sends a signal to the relay box that turns on the fan. If I remember right the pcm has to ground a wire to turn the fan OFF. This is so that if there's a break in the wire to the pcm the fan will run continsouly. If the relay box goes out then the fan won't work at all and on the 2nd gen may set a check engine light, IIRC. Most of my exp. is with gen 2 so I may be wrong.

Ok thanks. I have been trying for the longest to resolve this problem. And the ac isn't working. I wonder are the 2 connected.

it's called a VCRM
variable control relay module

it's located behind the grille towards the lower end of the radiator.
it's bolted to the same bracket that your outside temperature sensor is bolted too.

if you peek thru the area your hood latch is in.. you should see both the outside temp sensor and down further a box the size of a small book with some cooling fins on it..and a GREAT BIG wire loom connector.

THAT is your culprit.

and, as you said..the AC doesnt work..BECAUSE the fan wont turn on.
If the fan wont turn on, the car wont run the AC because it'll blow out the AC charge in a matter of minutes without a fan blowing on the condensor core.

There are some VCRM's on ebay..they can also be had cheap at your local junkyard IF you dont let them know "how valuable" this part is.

I've gotten them for 5-20.00 by not telling them how "important" this little box is.

if you have a 93-95 car the vcrm's will interchange they are the same

the 96's dont interchange with ANY YEAR

the 97-98's are supposed to interchange but I haven't had to try...yet

I have never seen my fan off the entire time I owned my car. At least after I put a factory fan in place of the aftermarket one I got it with.

If the com bus between the vcrm and the pcm is broken, then the fan will run continously. I think. Better check the SM.

Well there is that and the fact that the thermostat was broken so the guy that had it before me put washers in the upper hose to slow the coolant down. So my car runs cold in winter and bit hot in summer.

I put a new stat in a spare housing but really don't feel like going threw the crap to get the old one out :(

Wow!! I have seen some interesting rigging my day, but I have never heard of that one. I remember that on a 305 a guy has having a problem with the thermo sticking closed so he just took the upper hose off and knocked out the guts of the thermo with a screwdriver and a hammer....

Yeah and the sad thing is I bought the car of a mechanical engineer to

Thank you for your help. Im a truck driver so I don't get to be on line everyday but the fan runs all the time. I could use that one for a 96 kustomizingkid. Can you tell me if you still have it and how much.

+1

...

I wouldnt bet money that the VLCM (Variable Load Control Module) is the culprit here without doing a big of diag first, especially because it is a very expensive part. Food for thought, diag a the ford dealer is $80ish. Is the fan on all the time? Or never comes on?

Never comes on.

I have a wiring book for my '96, but I haven't bought on for my '93 yet. It's on the to-do list!
