After Market CD Player for Mark VII?

This is so fustrating.

I have tried 2 different CD playeres. I've hooked both up, neither one will power up!

I have ctied to connect them every possible way.

I took the original stereo connected it to the new harness and it works.

So I know I'm doing this correct. At least one would think.

The '85 Mark VII wouldn't have anything that would cause it to recognize only the original radio?
 
Why are you having so much problems? Mine were an easy instal. Did you order from crutchfield.com? If you did you would have received everything you needed. with tech service and fully loaded instructions. (Not the kind you get from Japan!)

I bought the harness from Scosche and that seems to work fine as it worked when I hooked the original stereo through it just to see if that was the problem.

I connected as it showed and the orignal worked fine.

I don't know about these others. I have a nice pioneer, and then I just purchased some cheap junk for about $50 just to see what would happen.

Nothing on each.

Just fustrated - This shouldn't be a difficult task.
 
Should have gottin Sony! You matched up color to color, right? They re just might be a few extra wires that do not connect. Like if you have a place for an amp connection. That would most likly be for a new M7 and such. . .

Did you connect it directly to the battery to make sure the units actually work?

The pioneer I did and it did not power up. I didn't with the new one.

I guess I could try it also. I was worried that I might fry it. I've been feeling like I've thrown enough money at this thing.

The cheap Wal-Mart special pwoers up when connected strate to the battery.

Now why doesn't it work when connected to the wire harness? While the original one does!

Can you post a picture of what your dealing with, it may be easier to troubleshoot?
 
Try connecting the ground (black) to the chassis instead of the harness...

I don't have my camera. Kids took it.

To answer the other question, the ground is connected to the body of the car. There is a metal support that holds the original unit up. It is connected to the car.

The cheap unit powers up when connected to the battery. I ran a wire from the (-) of the battery to while I had the other (+) Wires connected to their appropriate places and still no power so I ruled out the ground.

Again the original unit will power up.

Is there any way that the newer units need some kind of conversion to the older system?

No, unless you have a real high $$$ one that needs an amp connection. Most units are based on the same voltage.
 
If you bought a regular cd player. It should matter unless you have a real old car that doesn't have good power going to it. ohm I believe is about speakers. That shouldn't mater in this case. Call up a audio instal guy. Tell them your problem and I bet they will get you hooked up in no time. . .
 
Are you sure the deck works? If you hook up the memory, battery, ground wire the deck should turn on, if it doesnt id look at the deck not the wiring.

Those 3 wires need to be connected for the deck to turn on though. Not just power and ground (I think =p).

Doesnt matter if it needs a sep amp, ohms its pushing anything, it should turn on with those wires connected.

BTW the quick test was said before, hook wires directly to battery and see if it turns on, Memory and battery both to + of battery of course and neg from deck to neg on battery. If it dont work id bet your deck dont work.
 
Broke donw and bought new unit for Crutchfield - includes all necessary items to connect to my '85.

I guess there is a problem with the common ground used in '85. Crutchfield had a kit that fixes the problem.

I was contacted by another guy on lincolns on line and he had the same problem. He went to rewiring his.

We will see what Crutchfield can do.

If it was only the ground, you should have just run a new 1, VERY simple, and easy fix.

Typically, that is incorrect. Most headunits will function with a positive and negative connection. The third wire is for additional power to store memory will the car is off, and has nothing to do with the unit turning off or on.
 
Just an update on the Stereo delemma.

I purchased a Blaupunkt from Crutchfield and ordered all of the parts that they said I would need to connect to my 85 Mark VII.

Followed the directions like a good boy (gave up the ego, I don't need the stupid directions thing).

Put everything in but not totally in place. And wah lah - It powered up but No sound. :Bang

So, through all the directions away took the speaker harness appart went to figure out what was the problem.

And what worked - what should have worked in the first place if you didn't read the directions -

Match the color wires to the color wires on the Scosche harness and pug it in. Da. The same way I first tried connecting the other units that had purchased.

The extra $30 unit that the Crutchfield tech said I needed because of the common ground used in the 85 Mark VII was not necessary and did not work the way the directions claimed I needed it wired.

(Anybody need a PAC OEM-2 unit)

Anyway I do like the Match the unit to your car option that Crutchfield has. I took an item that claimed to be an easy fit.

Oh and if you follow the directions from Scosche on the filler plate that holds your after market stereo in the dash of your Mark VII. It doesn't fit either.
Get yourself a jig saw and start trimming.

But now I can rock in real sound :dancefool

For those who don't understand Southwest Wisconsin - Too many bluffs block the radio stations - plus too many redneck country stations - I know why cowboys look so blue - That $#!+ is depressing. Just give me some old time Rock-n-Roll, someting that makes you wan to put the peddle down.

I got 2 decks atm and both need all 3 wires to power on, not sure why. No point in saying only need pos and negative if even on some decks its different. Better safe then sorry.
 
I am glad that it finally all worked out. Sometimes there are things that we just can't pinpoint through the forum, as we cannot actually see the problem. But at least you worked through it!
