Affordable Component Speakers for LS

My car is an 01 with Alpine system and the stock speakers are concentric paper cone. Definately not plate speakers. Maybe the Gen 2 cars were upgraded ..........?

Are you sure the speakers weren't replaced? This is a picture of the '01 Alpine speaker. It's hard to tell, but it is a plate speaker:

So has anybody tried to upload a more modern firmware like the ones on the newer pioneers??

The components were just manufactured by Pioneer to Ford's specks. There is no software upgrade available. The only "upgrade" is a new DVD from Navteq.

Would be nice, though........

I saw that but its just a start screen....i mean a full complete graphics change.

Ill just get an avic later on.

both my 1st gen and my 2nd gen had the plate speakers with the alpine systems. the 2nd gen had a much lighter/cheaper mach speakers just like the ones that came in my dads 03 ranger with the factory mach mp3 system. one of the old speakers weighed about as much as two or three of the new speaker.

Cool.. I'm trying to find something with excellent bass and I guess full range.. For what I want, I guess I will be spending some dough..

if any places around you have the infinity perfect components, i would try to get a listen to those, basically sounds like a choir pf angels signing in your car

Focal? <-- polar opposite of the thread's title.
one of the best sounding sets of speakers i have ever hear, was a guy that brought a set of these

for his M3, which had factory three way comps, he also brought in a sub enclosure that he picked up that kinda mounted under the rear deck kinda like ours with a 8"JL. It sounded as close to perfect as ive ever heard.

must be a cost saving reduction....just like they did away with the strut covers from the factory.

one of my buddies just had Morel components installed and they sound great he also had two 12' hertz subs put in and easily one of the best systems i have heard....

From that parts illustration it sure looks like the artist was trying to represent a plate speaker all right. However, I've had my car since the day it was born and those speakers were certainly in there from the beginning. Maybe the Alpine with rear deck subs (the Audiophile option) also had plate speakers in the doors .....? On the back of the magnet assy. mine are stamped with Ford part number XW7F-18808-BB (I kept the stockers just in case I ever needed to replace a blown rear or something in future.

exactly, just like how the early 1st gens, had there factory subs placed into an enclosure that bolted under the rear tray.
