On earth.
Okay, I did some quick searching but not to much because I have very limited time on the internet but I wanted to run this by you guys to give me some first hand experience, sorry if its a repetitive question.

I was cruising back down to the academy this evening about 80mph and I saw my buddy in the distance. I gave it a good bit of throttle and it started to accelerate very harshly. The check engine light began to flash and I got a small amount of a burning smell. I immediately backed off and it stopped flashing. This was about midway through a 150 mile trip. For about the next 30 miles every time I gave it more gas then what was required for cruising it would do the same thing, but when I came off of it things proceeded as normal. Light goes off and everything.

So I drove very moderately for the rest of the trip and when I got towards the end I was trying to get it to do the same thing and I could not recreate it, it doesn’t have the power it did previously but its not down by any considerable margin, just enough to tell.

Like I said, I have very limited time on the internet during the week so sorry if this is covered 1000 times before. Any info on this would be very much appreciated. I keep reading coils so I hope thats the case, seems easy enough.

Mine did that when I had a bad coil. I'd start there first. If it is a bad coil also change the spark plug.

U can sometimes tell if a COP is bad by putting your finger on each 1 until u find the 1 that tics diferently, usually a good COP doesn't make a hard tic tic tic to tell @ idle. I have a hand held VOM with o'scope to read. I can read it & see it.

You can find a set of Visteon coils on amazon for 179.99. I would post a link but I'm on my phone and the link wouldn't work. Just google Lincoln LS Visteon coil and look in the shopping results. For plugs, get whatever, but I'd suggest staying with platinum. And always double check the gap. I had a few plugs out of gap right out of the box.

I had the cheap eBay coils ($100), the Visteons ($200), and then when I was sick of chasing the bad ones I bought a set from Max ($375). No problems since.

Hey guys thanks for the insight, I appreciate it.

I am trying to arrange for the dealer to come and get the vehicle from the police academy that I am at because I can't leave throughout the week. I have only had the vehicle for 1 month, and about just 1000 miles so hopefully they will be fair and treat me right.

I also bought a factory warranty when I purchased it, so OEM is my only option here per the terms of the warranty. Not to bad, will only have to pay an out of pocket deductible of $200.00 which I am trying to get them to foot since I've only had the car for a very short period of time.

I started the car this morning, it starts fine and now the CEL is illuminated constantly, which is different from when I pulled in Sunday night.

I keep reading about how this car eats coils constantly so I hope that this fix is simple enough and doesn't keep my car in the shop for to long.

Anyway, I'll be checking on here very periodically, but seriously thank you guys for the help.

What year is this LS, which engine, and how many miles?

The V8s for 2003 to 2005 are covered by the factory for coils up to 100K miles, at no charge to you.

Mines in the shop right now Im about 99% sure its the coils, I love going to the lincoln dealership and walking away without a bill lol.

Correct. It's an 06 3.9 V8. With 58k on it right now.

However, like I perviously stated I purchased a warranty with the vehicle when I bought it used.

Er?? You have some negative results with the Viseons? Can you provide details?
Maybe I just missed the post sometime in the past. Seems they've only gotten love around here, and haven't been used long enough to really make a history.

You can get two sets of visteons for the price of one set of oem.

Bet those oem wont last as long as both sets.

As Joegr stated they are covered by the factory up to 100K. I don't think it matters where you bought it. Factory warranty is factory warranty if I'm not mistaken.

Without warranty yes.

For 06 if you dont have warranty coils are not covered. Luckily the op does have one.

About 4 years ago I bought a coil set from alanisdeals, the same seller that sells the viststeon coils on ebay, for my 04 LS V6 (RIP) and had no problems with them. Last week I ordered a set for my 06 V8 and installed them yesterday.
