Adding amp with sub

I know there are alot of post on this. But this is what i have come across. I have a 2002 lincoln ls sport with the alpine 6 disk and no amp or the subs in the trunk but the harness is there. I have tried the rear door speakers and front door speakers to my amp which have the high input . but as soon as i turn the key on all the door speakers don't work, but let's say i disconnect the positive on the left side the left side now works and rehook the positive no change still works same for the right if i disconnect the right positive the right side works again and if i reconnect the positive no change until i turn the key off and back on i lose all door speakers once again until i unplug the plug for the high lower or take the positive off. Can anybody tell me how to fix this. thank-you Please help been playing with this for serval weeks thanks again

Did you try to see if u can get signal at the harness in the trunk where the factory subs would be.
 
yes i do get a signal there i have cut the one end of the rca off and connected the white to from rca to the white with red line, and the red from rca to grey with red line and took both ground from rca and connected in to the shield on harness then put rca's to amp. There is sound but very , very low . Hey thanks for the reply
 
You really need a step down. Doing it the way you are doing it is going to cause problems. Go to a stereo shop and tell them you need a 2ch step down. That is going to do what u need all it does is converts a high level to a low level so you can use rca's.
 
yeah thats it. Just get one of those and it should be good. You can get them cheap we sell ours for like 20 dollars. what kind of amp is it.
 
With the Alpine unit you may end up with some issues. IIRC, the Alpine unit uses external amps. The base unit uses an internal amp. I have the base HU and that said, I ran speaker wire from the speaker wires at the back of the HU to the high level input on the amp; then back to the HU (I spliced into the factory wiring). Yes, I ran 8 sets of wire to the trunk (where the amp is) and 8 sets back up front. If you want to use RCA inputs you will need an adapter. You'll need something like this.
 
You cant use that jl piece on any amp but a jl slash and g series amp he need a step down or if u want to get advanced an audiocontrol lc6 or lc7
 
Sorry was just looking through your post to see if i can find any other info. Hey nice job with covering the subs. I have 2 mtx 10" subs, And just using a cheap amp to start with it's a scosche 550 watt amp. I was wondering if i had to use a line converter for it had high inputs on it . If all works out i am thinking about buy an mrp 500 alpine amp. thanks for your help. Need to go out for about 10 mins but will check back to see what you have said thanks again.
 
Well i tried posting but it didn't go through, so i will try again the amp i have for right now is a scosche 550 watt amp and it does have high inputs on it. I am using this amp for it was cheap and if it fried i was ok with this. And have 2 mtx 10" subs. If i can get this working properly i am think of getting a alpine MRP -M500. Thanks again for the help.
 
Yeah that should work fine we carry the alpine at my shop and it is a good amp. I have not had any experiance with the scosche amps but we use there parts and wire. But if it has a high level input and u have the connector for the amp to use it that way you can try using it. Either that or the step down will work fine. But just trying to splice rca's into speaker wires is not going to work the way you want it.
 
Ok so like i said i tried the high level inputs on the amp as when i start this tread and had problems now if i try the step down converter will i have the same problem for it kinda works the same. thanks again
 
ok I thought u saud you just cut one end of an rca cable off and tryed to wire it on to the speaker wires by itself. But the stepdown usally works a little better because you can adjust the voltage coming out of most of them.
 
No when you asked if i had the connector at the drivers rear i tried rca off that but the volume was to low. So you think a line level converter will work best. And if so how will i know where to set the levels for there the one i believe for level in , and one for the line out to the rca is that correct.(there are levels for outs and ins right)
 
The way i usally set them is to turn the gain down on the amp turn the level down on the convertor turn the volume up on the radio to your loudest listening level without distortion. Go to the convertor turn it up to half way that should be a good starting point. Then go to the amp and turn the gain up untill it starts to distort or clip and then back it down alittle bit. If u max the gain out on the amp and it still is not that loud go back to the convertor and turn up until desired level is reached. This should be a good starting point for you.
 
Ok i will go to a stereo store tommrow and pick one up. I believe the he said he had was a suntech for 21.99 Canadian. Oh and thanks so much for your help have been at this for over a month, reading till my eyes bleed but got nowhere. Well hopefully this converter thing works. The only reason i never got one for one other shop told me that it already had one in the amp and there was no purpose of buying one. so i guess it is not compatable for i can change any of the settings on the amp for the levels. Hey thanks again if this works i will be happier then a pig in :q
