AC trouble, not DCCV.

I've had two different DCCV's put on the car in the past month and still it's blowing hot on driver's side and cold on the pass. side. My mech, Jerry, has tested the sensors on both the driver's and pass. side under the dash, they both checked out. He then tested the wiring harness, it checked out. Plugged it up to see if the control head was functioning, it communicated with the diagnostics and it was not storing any codes. He says that he's never had to replace the control unit and it's about a 600 dollar part.

Does anyone here have any ideas?
 
mine had the same problem, it was low on freon and a part didnt work, it wasnt the DCCV though .. i had the dealership fix the problem, the part was under warrenty, but if i find the papers from Ford, I'll let you know what happend to mine.
 
No, i dont have the papers, i threw them out, but the guy showed me where the new part was that he put in, it has a shiny chrome piece to it, so tomorrow i'll take a picture of it, that might help on where its located.
 
I have a 2003 with the V-8 and went thru a similar problem. Have you changed the in cabin air temperature or ambient temperature sensor? It's behind the small grille that is right above your ignition switch. It's only about $18. Mine was covered in crud and probably could have been cleaned up. I had also replaced the DCCV and the evaporator temperature sensor and the thermostat plus changed the anti freeze. I also changed the head unit (DATC). If you replace the DATC get a used one from Ebay!! Much cheaper and it turns out that the DATC rarely fails. Also remember that the DATC can NOT be replaced without reprogramming it for your car. So it's a dealer operation. But it was that $18 sensor the entire time!!

Remember the LS is complicated and has 4 interior temperature sensors. Passenger and drivers side temperature sensor, the evaporator temperature sensor, the in cabin ambient air temperature sensor and finally the sun load sensor which is the little round dome at the base of the windshield in the middle of the dash. That also has a flashing red light for the anti-theft system (PATS).

If your car is the first generation (2000-2002) then there are some other differences. But the system works the same and has the same number and type of sensors.

Cool, just whenever you can get around to it.

As for the cabin temp sensor, all LS's have them, it's how the climate control knows when to turn down (or up) the fan. And yes, the mech tested both first by swapping pass for driver and driver for pass, and then by putting in a "known" good one and still have hot on driver's side.
 
2 Dccv's?

Did either one of the DCCV's fix the problem for awhile????? It either one fixed the problem for some period of time,,,,then I would suggest that you have air in the system and a need to bleed. Something in the system may be keeping the DCCV from working properly. Did you flush the system before installation of the DCCV? What are you using as an antifreeze mixture? :D
 
No tireman, neither one fixed it for any period of time. It turns out that the control unit went bad. So I swapped out a DCCV twice totalling ~8.5 hours and $200, all to spend an additional 133.25 and thirty minutes swapping the control unit. Actually, before I got the final diagnosis I had a pair of vise grips (jaws wrapped in electrical tape) on the hose going to the heater core to shut the flow, thereby getting AC but no heat.

Tireman - thanks for the writeup you did on DCCV removal and installation, it was very useful.
 
Where are the service ports for the a/c? The high and low service ports so I can recharge my a/c.
