AC issue

Hey guys as you may know from a previous post I was having trouble with my AC. What happened was it would blow cold air until it got to the set temp and then it would blow out hot air, not neutral air, distinctly hot air. Well, I haven't gotten that problem resolved. I've taken it to the dealership I got it from and they couldn't replicate the problem. So, I took it to a local shop I trusted and they got replicated the problem driving it, went to hook a machine up to see what was going on. Turns out they didn't have the right machine. Anyways, that was Monday. I drove it Tuesday and the AC worked, had to leave it on 60 and mess with the fan speed for comfort, but it worked. Today, Saturday, I drove it no AC at all. Even with the temp set at 60 I got nothing but hot air. Any ideas what it could be?
The local shop seemed to think it could be a cabin sensor. The dealership replaced some heater valve before I purchased the car.

There was a previous post that i read on here with somebody else who was having that same problem with his LS he said something about disconnecting the negative battery cable for 10minutes to reset something on the car. He said that fixed the problem. If i find the thread i will post it.
 
relay possibly...

My Lincoln tech told me that my AC was leaking and needed $300 worth of parts plus the relay in the front box changed.

I changed the relay and the AC is now blowing cold air.

(Just a side note, I had my 2000 LS in for a starting problem and just "asked" about the AC issue. - however, my bill for "repairing the starting problem" was $300 - and still have the starting problem....)

If the Heater control valve, DCCV, has been replaced than it is more than likely the cabin temp sensors, one on each side under the dash. If it's not that than the other solutions would be to test the wiring to make sure that the proper amount of elecricity is getting to the DCCV. If that's not it it's probably the control unit.

Since it works intermittently I would assume that it's the cabin temp sensor on it's way out. When my control unit went, it went, none of that put it on 60 and see, it was out.

I just went through this same thing over the summer, I had one mech at the local stealership work on it both times it was in. He went through everything he was doing with me. I replaced the DCCV, still no dice. He checked to make sure I'd put the hoses on correctly, I had. He checked to make sure the DCCV was receiving electrical input, it was. He put it a "known good" cabin temp sensor, that wasn't it. Last thing on the list of possibilities - control unit, ford price ~ 650ish. Found it at a junkyard for 133 shipped to my door. Installs in less than 1/2 hour. And we did recharge it at somepoint to mark that off the list. And they dyed the coolant to tell if there was a clogged up.

Maybe that list of stuff to check will help, good luck.
 
Inability to keep set temperature... DEATC system with heated/cooled seats

I am having a very similar problem in my 2003 LS. I have the unit with the cooled/heated seats. My AC works intermitten on Automatic. If used in manual mode it works great. Also when I set the temp to 60 it starts to work normal in Auto mode, of course constant cooling.

I also noticed that my outside temp reading has been wrong from time to time. At times when I start the car it would read negative digits even though the temp outside is 80. It does recover from this foulty reading within a few minutes time. This does not seem to have any effect on the first problem, or it may just seem that way. Anyone experienced this? Perhaps outside sensor malfunction? Or maybe the EATC itself?

Anyhow, does anyone know how to enter diagnostic mode within this unit? I am only able to find this for the unit without the heated/cooled seats.

GhostInTheMachine, our car's symptoms sound exact up until last week. What I quoted you on is that same problem I had. When I turned it to 60 and turned the fan down to low it would stay cool. After about 45 minutes or so I could press the auto button, it would do constant cooling as well. Now, as I described, it just blows out heat, regardless of what the temp is set at.

Does anyone know if this is significant in helping narrow down the problem?

I had the same type of problems you guys are describing. The Lincoln dealer changed the control unit and everything works perfect now.
 
Thanks for that piece of info ACEDOY.

I was leaning towards the control unit myslef. I just ordered one on Ebay. I will post if it indeed solved my problem once I receive it. Hopefully this week.:)
 
Fixed

Hey, thought I'd give you and update on my car. The AC is fixed and working properly now. Took it to a Ford Lincoln Dealer. Turns out it was the pressure switch not being fully plugged in. I had the place I bought the car from pay the bill, as it was most likely them that didn't plug it in all the way when they serviced it earlier. They agreed that that was probably the case. So if any of you are having the problem I described earlier you may want to check the switch before you start replacing stuff.

I owe a response as well.

In my case the unit I bought on EBay turned out to be defective, needless to say I swapped it for nothing or............ well here it is, after I installed my original unit by in I am experiencing no issues. Magic.:eek:

It has been 12 days since the install.

..and the only rational explanation I can come up with is that my original unit was unplugged for about 30 min and that did the trick. Anyway, after i put it back in it is working like a champ, no problems whatsoever.

Anyway, was it a reset or a reboot that have done it? :confused:I will wonder until next time!:)
 
let me add my 2 cents...
well it started about a month and a half ago, my ac would blow hot/cold air and i was {???} i thought it would be the dccv, but before i could get into all that my car started to overheat, so i didnt care about fixing the air. after i fixed the overheating the ac would blow hot all the time. and i've been rolling for like 3 weeks with no air until yesterday. went to my local mechanic and he found the leak for me, told me i needed a 6$ valve & 3 cans of freeon...he charged them em and switched a few relays and walah! blows cold as ice, litteraly i can see frost...

hope this helps...cost me 55$ in all
