 How do I pull the codes for the ABS light on a 98? Can this only be done at a dealer? Where is the plug to read this error code? Auto Zone can not pull abs codes.

I've search all 3 mark viii boards and can't seem to find my answer. I did find the answer for Gen 1's.

My ABS light comes on after I reach about 10-mph.

One possible fix seems to be to clean all sensors, but I'd like to know where the problem is coming from, so I can start there.

Thanks,
Ken

ABS runs a self test at (i think) 12 mph
sounds like the pump is failing the self test, maybe it has air in it..?

they can be a bugger sometimes to get all the air out of them without the ford IDS or theves tool

hope it's not one of the "unobtainium" abs wheel sensors..(cringes)

I would just clean all the sensors. Ya, it can take time but if carbon dust is the issue with one, it will be an issue with another soon. Most likely the fronts. I would do them both first then drive if you want to do the rears later.

I cleaned all the sensors......that did not fix the problem.

I couldn't get the front sensors off, but I did my best with a brush and cleaner to clean it.

Can't the error code be pulled while the car is running after the ABS light comes on?

Not sure what to do next.

I could try my mechanic?

Any other suggestions?

Ken

You are gonna need a scanner that can communicate with the ABS module or Ford's diag tool. Generic off the shelf scanners won't talk to it. This is what you'd need for the abs to get the codes here
