A little help with the leather.

I just bought a new Mark VIII, it is like brand new except for some minor dings, it was kept in a garage most of its life, and the miles are all highway. Owned by a 70 year old retired military man, it was treated very well. The only real thing that I don't like about it has to do with the leather.

I know that since it is a 95' model, 14 years would put some wear on the leather, and it has begun to crack, I was wondering what would be the best to fix this with. I keep hearing to use a leather mender, but I figured I would get some opinions on here, any advice would be helpful. Thanks guys.

This won't fix it, but it will help keep it from getting worse: I use Meguiar's Gold Class cleaner/conditioner wipes on the leather, every time I wash the car. I have a 99 Continental and the leather looks great. As I said, it won't fix it, that's something altogether different, but it will keep it from getting any worse. Hope this post is of some help. My 93 had the normal thin places on the drivers seat bolster area. Found a local auto interior shop that redid the seat with a look alike leather vinly, he paints the new sections to match, still looks good after 10 months and he charged $125.

There is really no way to "fix" leather when it cracks to the point of showing white. What I'm getting done to my CE is have the side bolsters replace with peices of leather cut from a matching back seat from a parts car.

yeah i agree, i sell rear seat skins left and right and people use them to have the front seats repaired, its a dead match and its the same stuff, not some off shade cheap crap from a repair upholstery shop. when its done you cant tell the difference at all.

I was lucky enough to have the rear seat out of my 97 parts car, and it is a dead on match for the light grey on the CE seats.
