My A/C started making that hissing nosie that it makes at start up constentily and it is not cooling. Any thoughts from anybody on this?

Thanks for the help

The hissing sound is usually a telltale sign that its either low on freon due to a leak or just normal loss. Make sure your compressor is turning on when you turn the a/c on, should hear a click under the hood. If you're too low on freon the compressor wont turn which gets you no cold air.

mine kind of hisses too, but ive always thought it sounded like the a/c belt squealing. Maybe i'll take a look at the pressure.

I have the exact same thing (01, 90k miles). Sounds like a steam pipe. Do those rechargers you can get at autozone do any good?

It was low on gas. Just put a littl in there and it went away and it started blowing cold again. I must have a small leak because I had the compressor changed 2 years ago.
