Searched through lots of old threads but couldnt find a match for this one.

2004 LS .. When I turn on the A/C, the blower kicks on full speed. Heat and air work fine, but unable to control speed or turn it off. The speed LEDs will adjust but the fan runs at full speed. I actually have to hit the off button, then turn the car off and open the door to get the air to shut off =)

Stealership says its a bad blower control module, want $125 + $775 labor to fix. Something doesnt sound quite right about that, hoping for some help from the pros here.

Thanks

Yes, I will admit that they probably have the right part given the symptoms =) Does that sound like a reasonable cost for labor? IE this is in no way a DIY job?

Hold on I have to boot my laptop to look at ALLDATA.COM. And then I'll reply. Probably real easy with an expensiveass part.

Thanks man..

I took it in thinking this would be covered under the ford extended warranty, no dice apparently

I will be swapping the window regulator and would like to take a stab at this provided i dont have to take out the entire dash

By the way, they quoted the part at $128

I pulled a quote from the shop records for a 90.00 part and 5.9 hours. Well enjoy pulling the column and the entire dash to get to the bugger.

argh... thats what i was afraid of

I appreciate you looking into that

DATC self test

run the self test and report the results. Ask joegr what the key sequence is to run the test.

Thank you tireman and joe..

I found the pinpoint test on the link joe gave, I will run that to double check the diag.

Do you guys recommend a site to order the blower motor? Ebay has them for $20 and up, dealer quoted $128, quite a gap there.

Thanks again

The blower motor and the blower motor speed controller are two different things, however it might not be a bad idea to replace the blower motor when you replace the speed controller, since most of the job is labor just to get to them. It could be that a failing blower caused the speed controller to fail.
My main part source is Max (look to the right). If I was paying $700 to get the part installed (or doing that day's worth of work myself) I wouldn't cheap out and put an unknown e-bay part in there. You don't want to have to do this again.
