while searching craigslist I found this ad it sounds like bs but he says he has paperwork to prove it, could be worth checking out

Perfect daily driver! 24mpg! Well over 300HP! Needs soap & water! NO DENTS! NO RUST! BODY IS PERFECT! ORIGINAL PAINT! NEVER IN AN ACCIDENT! REGISTERED UNTIL 10-2008! ALL THIS CAR NEEDS IS A DRIVER!

Up for sale is a 1998 Lincoln Mark VIII with 128K miles. This is not your average Lincoln, this has the 4.6 DOHC Cobra engine & transmission and runs low 9's / high 8's at Irwindale Speedway (9.1 to 8.9).

This car was owned & maintained by the L.A.P.D. (only one owner, check carfax) This was a Seargent's car and was his undercover car. Engine is modified with YOUR tax dollars and is basicaly a Police Interceptor. Once you drive this beast around the block, you'll realize this isn't your average Mark VIII. Yes, I have paperwork to prove this.

Tags are good until October 2008
New brakes & AC
New fan, waterpump, window motors
Engine maintained by Los Angeles Police Dept.

What's wrong with the car? It has limo tint all the way around. Exhaust is loud (not broken, just needs a muffler if you prefer a quiet ride, sounds like a mustang cobra). Rug is dirty, it needs a shampoo. Window washer pump is broke (wipers work fine, just no mist). CD changer isn't working, but I have a new one for you for free. Other then that, the car is perfect. Drive it cross country. Mechanicaly the car is amazing, engine & tranny are in TOP shape.

The price is very firm at $2700. I'm selling it because I need money for Christmas. I don't buy & sell cars, this has been my personal daily driver for three years and I know everything about it. The car is worth five grand the way it is, I need money fast and that's why the price is so low.

The price is very firm at $2700.00 Blue Book has this car at over five grand.

The first person to test drive this car will take it. This car is super fast at 24MPG.

A high eight ,low nines streetable car ...... she might be a little over 300 hp driven for 128 000 and gets 24 mpg....wow good miles for a slightly modified motor....and he fills up his car at the gas station........and where's the role cage for this 9second monster. I heard they replaced this interceptor with an F-1 car and Schumacher since they had to update .Total bs

He even kept the cd changer so he could relax on long commutes and pursuits. Not busting Hellvez personally just our fine copy writer. I have seen the Tony tag elswhere........

I saw this same ad a couple of years ago. He is either an idiot or a liar. Either way it doesn't run 8's, 9's, 10's, 11's, 12's, 13's or 14's. what a joke!

Had Me Goin For A Second..hey But U Never Know. Knowing Me Id Probably Pick The Car Up,use For A Couple Of Days And Sell It!

He probably means in the 1/8th mile which is not that hard to so.

*edit* Yep, 1/8th mile. This is from their site:

Irwindale Dragstrip will this season play host to the Summit Drag Racing Series on its quick 660 foot, eighth-mile facility.

Lol. The car was used for undercover but has a really loud exhaust  Yeah ok...

Modified Cobra motor with well over 300hp  Mod list? Dyno sheet to prove that right?

I wasn't even aware that interceptor engines were modified, other than extra coolers for long idling, i could be wrong though...

Dont the interceptors have a different PCM tune for both tranny and engine? and extra coolers?

I know between Caprices (9C1) and Civii caprices those are the main diffrences. besides the interior and small items. like extra body mounts, and stiff bushings.

yes but there never was a police spec mark.

the only car ford ever built (in recent years) with a special police anything was the crown vic. taxis are also the same "police interceptor" package. this car may very well have been used and modified but i highly doubt with department tax money.

^^^ that could be possible Dallas TX. police modified several camaro SS's with a pro charger and spray for the street racing squad a couple of years ago.

98 mark 8

i bought the car in question its everything he said i put my chrome rims from my 96 and its great

High 8s/low 9s in the 1/8th is high 13s/low 14s in the 1/4. Not too shabby.

Congrats on the new car, chpauto, and welcome to LvC.

I'm sure the fine citizens of L.A. are pleased to know this guy is having them maintain his own personal fleet of hot pursuit race cars.

Well, the Police Interceptor I drive at work every night is definitely not a Mark VIII engine. Its MUCH slower. True it may have been a U.C. vehicle in a former life, but in my experience undercover cars see a lot of ABUSE in Police work. Someone is just trying to sell a mk8

The 02 CVPI I drive is definitely not a Mark VIII engine either... but it does push the Vic through the 1/4 mile only 2 tenths slower than my friend's 97 LSC ;)

Are not Most Under Cover Cars from the Impound Yard?

I thing the story is true to a point... the Point that the car was owned by a cop. That about it.

a buddy has an ex hy-patrol car. crown vic with a 32V 4.6. Haven't taken a close look at the engine, but guessing it's out of a lincoln. It IS pretty quick. (for a vicky). But it's no marauder.
